I can't get over how dumb their reasoning for no cosmetics is.
Why would their first thought be pink vader? Why not a cozy white Hoth vader or some kind of stylized Vader pilot suit. They even could have made smaller trinkets, like a more elaborate chain for his cape or some cool badges, maybe a different helmet style or an emblem on the cape. So much potential...

Sunday Morning Vader, with a onesie, slippers and a mug of hot cocoa.

I wouldn't call it dumb reasoning, its an intentionally bullshit excuse to cover whatever the real reason is, which I'm willing to bet is even dumber than the slippery-slope excuse they gave.
Hey, fine, you don't want non-canon cosmetics, that's fine, if I made any online game I would want a strict stabilization rule-set... except BF1 had canon cosmetics and a lot of them so its not like its some alien concept to them. BF2 didn't for a reason that they didn't publically state. The reason they gave ended up being this awkward response that had no self awareness at all.
When you really think about it, the fact that they thought that the reasoning they gave would even make sense at all is what annoys me. It sounded so dumb like what the fuck was the point

If they just said "We had to do other things" or "We had to choose to either work fully on the gambling system or detract work from that", it would have actually made sense, I'd almost respect them for that. But their weird tangential bullshit excuse just further shows the kind of disconnect these massive companies have.
There is an incomplete cosmetic system for regular troops in the game, just unfinished.

Honestly my assumption is that they intentionally pretended that they didn't think the community had interest in cosmetics, so the community goes "no what I'm totally fine with cosmetics/pink vader give me pink vader" so when they bring back microtransactions with cosmetics they can sell you a pink vader skin disguised as a funny in-joke
