And here we go again. I don't want to the Steam Mobile authenticator. I'm quite content with the security of the email Steam Guard features, yet as far as I can tell, I miss out and now have big trade barriers.
"Listing on the Steam Community Market will have a hold of 15 days before an item can be sold" :why: v I honestly did not want to use that tool, since 3 days wasn't much but 15 days to sell a crappy weapon for 1 virtual penny?????? sign me the fuck up
"Listing on the Steam Community Market will have a hold of 15 days before an item can be sold" :why:
That's if you don't have the authenticator, but yeah, 15 days is ludicrous. For those who can't use the Mobile Authenticator, there are options
jesus christ that is fucking retarded
wonderful embedly image
now this is just getting stupid and annoying valve this is not how you fix issues this is how you create issues.
My Windows Phone don't have a Steam app. lol I'm fucked
There is an unofficial one.
wtf?
I wouldn't mind using their authenticator if I had something to run it on. And having to rely on somebody else's thing to protect my Steam account doesn't seem like such a great idea.
"Hold for 15 days so the price can drop in that time and you'll have to adjust your price! That way you get less free funbucks and have to buy games!"
Dear EA. Please buy valve. Right now we can't really understand why they have gone to shit. Your name all over them will at least give us something to blame. -MIPS
In 2018, all the trade and market holds will be removed. Instead, you would have to fight Gabe Newell in single combat to gain eligibility for trading and market use.
I can't use the mobile authenticator because it's tied to phone number, and as a broke ass boost mobile customer who sometimes can't pay his bill, my phone number is prone to random changes that would leave me locked out of my account. I'd probably be fully behind this if it wasn't mobile authentication only, though.

Oh no, Valve is protecting people from what Valve has said was a massive issue. I mean, I seriously doubt someone at Valve is going "lol, time to annoy some random people on the internet" as motivation. If they wanted to do that, they would make another ARG with HL3 references or something. And for the record, I don't have a mobile device so this does affect me, I just view this as a reasonable solution to the problem.
Valve should not be responsible for people being irresponsible with their accounts. Furthermore, implementing these rather draconian measures is just hurting the people that are responsible.
Valve should not be responsible for people being irresponsible with their accounts. Furthermore, implementing these rather draconian measures is just hurting the people that are responsible.
Except it is Valve's responsibility, unless you're fine with them providing no support for hijacked accounts, which I suspect is not the case. Because that's how items are stolen, people hijack accounts. Further, the ability to profit from hijacking accounts encourages account hijacking at a "professional" level. When Valve first made these changes they were seeing around 77,000 account hijacks per a month. Further, Valve claims that the mobile authentication has been more effective than they had expected, so implying these measures have no positive benefit seems inaccurate.
They have hardly provided any support in the past and continued to do so into the present. I'd rather see a better Customer Support system set up than have to rely on a hacked together mobile authenticator that might not even be on my smartphone's platform, ASSUMING I have a smartphone. People need to be taught better anti-phishing/account protection measures, rather than rely on this sort of thing. Valve claims a lot of things. This might help prevent account hijacking, but it'll also hinder a lot of people that don't want to use this (rather invasive) measure.
Here comes the inflation!
There is an unofficial one.
https://github.com/Top-Cat/UnofficialSteamAuthenticator all I found seems pretty high-maintenance from the looks of how it's being treated in the issues don't have a windows phone though, not my forté
As a person that uses the steam market really often, this is really shitty.
I would gladly use the mobile authenticator if the app was available for windows phones. As it is, me and several others are being punished for not using Android or iOS.
Shouldn't the whole trading system be redesigned from scratch? I feel as if the only reason as to why they are doing this is because the whole system is really bad.
I could hardly care less. I use steam for buying and playing games, not for their shitty marketplace for cosmetics in their games.
What the hell is going on with Valve being so ridiculously out of touch with their community and fan-base? Seriously, back in 2012 you wouldn't even fathom that they would be incredibly shitty like this.

Fuuuuck I don't even have a smartphone Why should we be punished for people being retarded seriously
