They made the textures in I Am Alive greyscale (aka "dusty and barren") so it would be easier to compress, and therefore would fit onto Microsoft's small arcade game size requirements.
Could've been soooo much better.
I don't want to sound dickish but the devs were saying "survival after apocalypse oo" or something like that, what've got now? This.
I'll probably play it once and forget about it.
First time I saw the I am Alive trailer. I was looking for more of a Fallout mixed with STALKER.
Doesn't look like it :/
I seem to remember that 'I Am Alive' was going to feature an ordinary man who has to survive in the immediate after effects of a disaster...
Either the devs fucked things up by turning to making it arcade, or I'm thinking of a different game that was never released.
They simply HAD to fuck the game up with a retarded black & white color filter just like Battlefield 3 did with it's blue filter + lens flare all over the fucking screen. WHY?!
When I saw the first trailer, I was under the impression that this game was going to be about a man who has to survive the immediate effects of a natural disaster in NYC. Apparently, the actual plot is "A thing killed everyone and now I have to find my family!"
Dang.

this actually looked good
i dont get why everyone hates i am alive now. i mean, i think it looks fine... i like the whole, pointing guns at people making them fuck off and all that. and i like the whole post apocalyptic bow use.

Apparently the development was suddenly brought to a halt, and later caught on again but with a completely different form that was much less ambitious than in the first place.

Personally I don't hate the game, it still looks quite good and seems to have the same ambiance as The Road. I just wish it was closer to what was firstly shown, I was really interested to see what the developers would come up with the idea of immediate aftermath, rather than taking it to several decades later like a lot of other games/movies did.
Shame. I Am Alive looked like a game I would love but this just looks... bleh.
It seems alright to me for an Arcade game.
Then again, I had no expectations for it in the first place.

There seems to be a lot of good ideas put into this though. I like the fact the AI goes further than attacking you on sight or not reacting to the presence of fire arms.
Looks pretty fun, and I don't care about the black and white lighting.
Why is everyone saying it is bad based on a few shots of gameplay? I think this looks great and sticking true to their original concept, and the "black and white" thing really works for me.
