The install of WinXP on my work computer at work is getting really old, and all it does is thrash the hard drive and it's getting extremely difficult to get anything done. Reformatting is out of the question, because it's not my computer; it's my employer's, and I'd have to tie up the IT guy's time to resetup my machine for the corporate networking stuff. And I've got a project due pretty soon, so I can't waste that much time getting Windows set up.
I did the usual defragging, running CCleaner, and deleting as much crap as I could.
Is there any way to "fix" an NTFS partition, or is my partition totally FUBAR?
chkdsk?

Thanks, I'll try that out on Monday.
Is there anything else worth trying?
Also, run Defraggler instead of the Windows one. Made by Piriform, CCleaner guys.
not sure, but that should fix it, it usually does for me. Look up the command parameters for chkdsk (-r etc)
put linux on a flash drive.

That is what I used. :v:
Make sure the power is plugged in
