• Problem with new computer build ( motherboard issue? )

The last couple of days I've been putting together a new build. Well, I've been trying to. Here's a copy of the email I sent to ASRock support.
This is a brand new system I've tried to put together. Initially I didn't plug an 8-pin power cable into the motherboard when I first tried to start the computer. As a result, all the fans spun up and a couple LEDs on my GPU lit up as well, but the computer remained like that and would not start. Realizing my mistake, the next day I connected the 8 pin power connector to the motherboard. I attempted to start the computer, but the power supply would click off after a couple seconds of the fans spinning up. The computer would then try to restart endlessly until I physically cut the power. I've already tested the PSU, which works like a charm. The graphics card has been removed and the memory re-seated. Every plug has been checked, double checked and triple checked. As I see it, the problem is probably one of two things -- either the CPU has a major issue (which I doubt) or there is a short on the motherboard that is causing the power supply to shut off in self-preservation. I have to admit that I haven't checked the CPU, since I didn't want to break the thermal compound. However, I have plenty of thermal compound to re-install the CPU with if needed.
Also, here is my setup. Any help or questions will be appreciated -- I'm basically sitting here wondering what to do next. [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/MR5E[/img_thumb]
Reseat the CPU. If that doesn't work i would just RMA the mobo. DOA CPUs are a lot less common than DOA motherboards.
How does it restart? It may restart if there is no bootable device found. But if you have transferred a harddisk from one PC to another with Windows already installed, there is your problem. You can't swap hard disks with Windows installed between different motherboards, you will need to re install Windows.
The motherboard is most likely DOA, no harm should come to the motherboard if 8-Pin cpu power cable is not plugged in, it will attempt to boot, but wont since it will not be able to use the processor, its a commonly made mistake, you should also check to see if the motherboard is shorting with the case by 'breadboarding' only if you feel comfortable with doing this. Are there any beeps when you power on?
Actually, when I woke up this morning I went to reseat the CPU. As I took off the cooler, I noticed that the RAM was only pushed in on one side. Apparently every time I reseated the RAM, I neglected to notice that it was actually only fully connected on one side. woops. :suicide:
