o2 Joggler: Bargain MID of the Century? Or Epic Alarm Clock..

The o2 joggler didn't have a great selling life. Reviews were bad as you did not get much for >£150. Now, for 14 days, o2 has dropped the price of the Joggler to £50. Let me tell you some things about it.
The basic set up of the unit is a 7 inch capacitive touch screen. With 1 USB and 1 Audio out. It has stereo speakers on the back. NO BATTERY.
Inside it runs on a 1.33Ghz Atom Processor and has 1GB Ram. Built in WiFi.
You can see this two ways..
1: Stock
2: Mod it
For 1, as of 1st april all Jogglers are upgraded to include things like PURE internet radio, Google Apps. Its main features are awesome network streaming, Photo playback, Calendar features etc.. All of this and its own app store, is not bad for £50.
For 2, this is an incredibly moddable piece of kit. The stock o2 software is based on a simple linux kernel. Thus, it is easily modifiable to install linux onto. Modders have successfully managed to install UNR (Ubuntu Netbook Remix) onto it, making it a great 7 inch MID. With the Atom and the 1GB ram, it is nippy too.
Now think about it, isn't £50 for a Linux (and soon android) MID pretty cool? I for one have ordered one, and i think some of you may be interested aswell. What do you think?
You can get one here: http://shop.o2.co.uk/joggler
SORRY - UK ONLY
Awesome, cheap option for a tablet I guess (okay, well not really). Seen a few ads for it but didn't think much at first.
A great MID? How can it be great without a battery? It's hardly mobile if you've got 3 feet of extension cables trailing

also but I liked the sound of this even if it has disappeared without a trace now
Hehe, well, you can kludge together a 5v battery from dealextreme if thats what your into.
No-one is really going to sit in bed and play around with their alarm clock. It would have been much better if it was portable, and you could dock it at the bedside as an alarm clock.
If this thing was portable I'd buy one.
I have one of these running in the kitchen as an alarm clock / calender / photo frame. Nice little device, as it doubles up as a media streaming client over wifi ;-)
For £50, cant really go wrong.
couldn't you use some sort of portable battery?
Anyone who has one who can share the actual details of the hardware? It might be a nice target for ChromiumOS if the hardware is compatible. Most importantly, what is WiFi chipset and touchscreen controller?
1.3ghz Intel Atom
512mb RAM
Intel HDA codec
Broadcom USB WiFi dongle (internal, without a casing)
Generic touchscreen controller, not sure on the chip.
Ive just ordered another one for the sole purpose of hacking. Ill post the updated specs.
I've also just ordered another one for the sole purpose of hacking.
I've ordered one too, I can't believe they can sell these at this price and still make a profit.
Anyone got any details on the chipset/graphics?
Intel US15W (http://ark.intel.com/product.aspx?id=35444) UXA chipset, video supported with the standard intel xorg driver.
Appears to be running a stripped down Ubuntu image by default, kernel 2.6.24.
Also, some users report it having a Ralink wifi chipset.
I'd love to get one, from the US though.
Too bad there's no battery.
Just ordered one, gonna keep me occupied over the term holidays.

Oh shit, it's the dreaded Poulsbo/GMA500 for which there was never source released. :(
Oh fuck yeah, I'm getting one. I'll give o2 Bournemouth a call and see if they do them at £50, otherwise I'll just order one online.

Dump the kernel modules from the vanilla firmware, check if they are any different to the shipping xfree86 drivers. Also, there's a fair bit of kernel and userspace code available under GPL.
O2 modified sources available (includes full kernel tree for 2.6.24):

Just to let you guys know that o2 retail stores are also selling the jogglers for £50, but apparently they're running out of stock fast - be sure to ring ahead and reserve one before you waste your time. Off to go pick mine up now - are there any tutorials / howtos for putting Ubuntu / Refit / Android on this thing?
Yeah - Installing UNE is located here : http://magician.gforums.de/
General modding, chat and everything is here: joggler.info/forum
(Note, im not advertising, im not affiliated with any of these places :) )
I tried the instructions on the link in the post above, no dice.
I got mine at a retail store too, btw. They're technically not supposed to be selling them at this price in retail apparently, it's an online/telesales exclusive I'm told.
About a day or so, here's Ubuntu Netbook Remix:

does touch work?
Got mine today, dont dare turn it on yet. Came off the van dripping wet with condensation. Didnt get much better when I opened it up, the screen and stand had a nice covering of condensation aswell.
Letting it dry out over night, and most likley wont get a chance to sit down with it until the weekend.
I saw this on HUKD.
May have to get myself one but what would I use it for
