• Betelgeuse goes supernova - we get a second buddy sun - what do
    6 replies, posted
For those that don't know, Betelgeuse is nearing supernova status, meaning it could implode at any moment. It appears the light from the blast will be able to be seen from here for months, forming a second "temporary" sun on our planet, effectively lighting up the night. This will have some strange effects, come to think of it. A few months of day instead of night means you be able to party all the ni- day. What will you do when night becomes day? I will recreate Episode 4, personally
By at any moment, do you mean in the next 50 years or in the next 20 minutes?
They say it could still take a million years for it to implode.
They say it could still take a million years for it to implode.
That a possibility, but "any moment" could also mean a lot sooner
"At any moment" is on the astronomical timescale, not the human. On topic: Take a lot of photos.
"possibly within the next million years" So yeah, not likely to happen this week.
Seeing as Betelgeuse is 400-500 lightyears away it could've already happened. Right?
