They are right, Skyrim is pretty generic in that aspect. If they can somehow combine The Witcher's storytelling with Skyrim's freedom of exploration, I'd applaud them. And buy their game.
I wonder if we'll ever come to a point were procedurally generated storytelling can be as compelling as that which is hand-crafted in The Witcher. Geralt has plenty of baggage, friends and foes before you even start playing him in the first game, which makes the story far more interesting (plus the 5 novels behind it are great fantasy books).
If they can pull it off, hopefully that'll put Bethesda on edge and make them invest even more time perfecting the next Elder Scrolls.
Would buy it immediately if they could provide simple character customization. I really hate that main character look. Especially the white hair... ugh.

roflmao just deal with it
If they pull this off right, with all that time and budget behind it, Witcher 3 may end up being a true GOTY for 2015. Witcher 2 was certainly a GOTY, after all, and hopefully Witcher 3 only goes up from there.

You can change the hairstyle in TW2.
I think they're boasting a little much here just for the sake of getting people to want their game more than their competitors. Now I'm not saying Witcher is a bad game. I enjoy it as it is. Great game. But to specifically boast about being better in one aspect than another game leaves me skeptical and open to be disappointed. This has happened many times when a developer has said they are doing something better than someone else, and many times have they failed. They really shouldn't worry so much about doing something better and should instead focus on doing something right. Sure Skyrim is generic when it comes to walking down the streets and talking to NPCs, but it's not exactly a simulation of real life either. It's still a good RPG that did enough things right to make it so.
The Witcher 3 will be a great game, but I highly doubt their world with be any more realistic than Skyrim's.
