So how can I install custom skins from dev-art ? Kinda new with this linux scene
What desktop environment or window manager are you using?
ubuntu 10.04 LTS beta 2
I'm gonna assume you're using GNOME then. Assuming the theme comes in the form of a tar.gz : Go to System>Preferences>Appearance. Click 'install'. Select the tar.gz file
thanks but what about icons and fonts ?
same thing with icons i think you can also extract icons to usr/share/icons. not sure about fonts [editline]1[/editline] I'm reading that for fonts, you can go to your home directory, enable viewing hidden files (with CTRL+H), and create a folder called '.fonts' if it doesn't already exist. Fonts can go in there & are usable upon restarting (maybe upon logging out, not sure)
How can I get that sysinfo gadget on my desktop ?
that's probably conky. i don't use it & am not sure how to install themes for it, but there's probably instructions for one of the many that are on deviantart (or in a google result somewhere)
Yes, it's conky. It 90% text based. It's done with a basic markup language with simple formatting syntax and you keep it in a file called .conkyrc in your filefolder. The icons are Wingding fonts. Google "conky configs" or just ".conkyrc" to get some good examples. If you want to have a go at making your own, there's a list of the vars you can use here and here
thanks for help everybody
