Hello, As some of you might know, I have a broken iMac G5 20" that I got from my grandmother's sister. It came with a burnt out Hard Disk but after several tries to instal an OS on a flash Drive, It gave out and Troubleshooting showed evidence of a failed motherboard. The Motherboard has 21 Blown Capacitors, which I don't think I could replace with any success. So I just Bought a new, working iMac G5 17" Motherboard for 70$ and put it in the iMac G5. there's no real differences except the size, there's no spot for an ambient light sensor, the RAM slots are facing the other direction, the Heat-sink case is shaped differently and doesn't reach the bottom of the 20" case, and the Mn. It just occurred to me that there's thermal paste bridging the Midplane Assembly with the Processor. This is a PowerPC Mac that I plan to run MacOS 9 on, Will Recycling the old Thermal Paste damage the computer? And Does anyone know of any negative consequences of putting a 17" in a 20"?
tl;dr: I got a Broken mac and put a smaller motherboard in it, The CPU might not get cooled efficiently? Is this bad if I'm running an older OS?
Thanks.

well apparently the Inverter for the 20" mac can't connect to the 17" mac so the monitor doesn't work, but I got the machine to chime on and all the DG LED's but the fourth one were solid green, indicating that everything is okay.
I don't think you can run Mac OS 9 on G5
I'm just going to replace the broken caps, anyone know a good place t buy caps and how to remove solder?

With a soldering iron.
Why OS 9? Can't you just toss Leopard on it?

Yes.

Preference, plus it's a Power PC Mac.
