These hard drive prices are killing me. If it wasn't for the floods, I would have bought the Samsung F3 by now. But for $150 I wonder if it's worth it. Should I wait a couple months or buy something now?
My 1 terabyte hdd cost close to 400 dollars, you could probably get one off the internet for cheaper, or you could just buy a smaller one..
Prices are going to stay the same until the end of 2012/early 2013 at most. It's worth the investment if you're going to get a lot of usage and benefits over it. Alternatively you could look around online for second hand hard drives.
if you need the space now, the F3
if you're able to avoid it for now you could wait for the prices to start falling but that could take months, possibly even Q1 2013
That's crazy, I got mine for $70 back in late 2010. You should wait if you can, if you buy another hard drive for the same kind of inflated price you're still at a loss.
I also bought a 1TB last year for $70 but I need more space right now. Looks like I'm gonna have to deal with the price.
Get a Spinpoint f3 or a caviar black, both drives will be fine.
It's a sad, sad day when HDD prices are so high again.
I got mine back in 2010, for Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB, for $50 during a Newegg sale.

Butyeah, to stay on topic: Yeah, it's the best right now.

Couldn't agree more. Mine's pretty much full, but there's no way I'm spending More than, like, $70 on a 1TB HDD, so I have to wait it out now.
God dammit, I get so sidetracked by the thought of a dog sitting at a computer whenever I see your avatar that I forget what threads are about
I know this goes against the thread title, but is this a good 2TB hard drive? I would use it for storage and some movie watching.

It's decent for storage, but not for anything highly demanding (like games).
I bought my F3 for $50 in June. Glad I did.

And that's why I've had this avatar for about four years, now.
I bought myself a 1TB drive the week before prices went up thinking one of mine was going to fail. Still hasn't yet and I'm considering selling it for pure profit.

To be honest I bet a lot of people regret not stocking up on hard disks to sell back before the prices shot up.

lowest price is 120.
Why did everything get so expensive? Is there new technology?

Because of the floods.

Because of God.
Does anyone know what caused the prices to inflate and when that happened? I remember back in October I was going to buy a 1TB Hard Drive when they were a little less than $90 but I fucked up and waited too long. Now they're through the roof and I can't figure as to why that would happen.

I wrote up a post pointing out how amazing it is that you are asking that question after reasons after reasons after reasons have been posting in this section for months now. Then I decided you must be joking.

I wasn't joking, and I don't frequent this forum very often. I came into this thread to see what suggestions you guys had for affordable 1TB Hard Drives (No sense in creating two topics) and saw that you all had noticed the price inflation. I didn't even know the Thailand flood caused the issue, pardon me for not being informed; but I also ask that you don't assume everyone frequents this part of the forums and is up-to-date on the market and pricing of computer hardware.
Like I said before, at least I made a post in one thread rather than create a whole new one; that would then at least merit some complaints.
I wish I had stock piled hard drives this time last year you could make a killing

I didn't imply that this section is the only source of hardware news on the face of the planet.

It wasn't also something I felt needed further researching. More of a "Hmm, that's odd prices have gone up some" while browsing Amazon and Newegg. It's that way for a lot of things since living overseas I do a lot of ordering online for essentials, so I don't consistently track the market of things I need/want. Take my above inquiry as more of a curiosity that I hoped to get some form of an answer, which I did. But I also didn't need the rudeness of essentially telling me to "Just fucking Google it."
