I'm very unsure and google didn't help me  For those who rated me dumb, I'm learning about computers. Leave me be
Depends on what you're needs are. Rendering/Encoding: i7's are very good because of 'Hyperthreads' which basically split the physical cores into 2 parts each. (PS. I mean very heaving rendering and what not...professional level). If not, an i5 will suit you great.
Well pretty much just gaming, Maybe going to start using 3ds max? [editline]09:04PM[/editline] Informative x 1
Well pretty much just gaming, Maybe going to start using 3ds max? [editline]09:04PM[/editline] Informative x 1
If just gaming, get an i5 750, it will also probably handle light to moderate 3dsmax usage. A word of caution, those kinds of programs like to eat RAM for all 3 meals of the day, so be sure you have lots.
i5 750 here, it's good. If you have the cash and got everything else all picked out and want a really good CPU, then yeah sure get an i7. But if it's like, a $1000 your messing with then I recommend the i5 750 fully since it is on par with low i7's and costs way less.
Eh, it's not a matter of just getting another one, Just wondering if i7 is any good for gaming. Thank you though  [editline]09:10PM[/editline]
i5 750 here, it's good.
Well of course it is, it's just a matter of how much money do you want to spend? :P
I already have my build figured out. I was just looking around and found it. Just wanted to know if it was any good. I don't know much about computer parts :v:
Eh, it's not a matter of just getting another one, Just wondering if i7 is any good for gaming.
then get an i5 750 almost exactly the same gaming performance for much less
Xeon X3440 if you must have the i7's hyperthreading.
I5 doesn't have HT, which makes it a little less performance wise in games like GTA4. Bare in mind that gta4 renders about 2 million triangles per frame, and it doesn't really increase the performance that much if you do get a HT processor.

That's totally enough. Also: The amount of polygons impacts your GPU more than your CPU. Sidenote: I can run GTA IV at 1920x1200, all at high on an i5-750 rig with 4 GB ram and a HD4890.

I find that hard to believe. source?
Does fine for me, I use my PC primarily for heavy gaming.
2 million triangles? I find that hard to believe. source?
The fact that everything on-screen is a model, maximum view distance doesn't cull very much, and if you're in the air it might even exceed this. Or maybe it's a bit far fetched, I don't know.
no not at all it sucks it doesn't even have wood screws get a pentium 2 instead
no not at all it sucks it doesn't even have wood screws get a pentium 2 instead
this is a valid opinion from a well known poste- waaaaaaaait a minute
If your budget will allow for a 1366 without compromising the graphics, go ahead.

[editline]11:27AM[/editline] Would someone explain the wood screw thing?

It's just a second set of registers used to swap between two threads extremely fast.
ATi fanboy prayer to their almighty god Charlie
I see...
Basically the next gen offerings of Nvidia cards were photoed at some conference and they were held together with what looked like woodscrews. Bearing in mind this was written by a source leaning towards ATi.

And polygons go to gpu, cpu doesn't process them much. And gta4 does not go to 2 million on screen. And if you use a heli, it's even less, thanks to lods.

How are you guys running GTA4 so high? GTA is the worst optimized game pretty much ever and I have most things maxed but my draw distance is like 30 with everything maxed. I have a GTX 260 and it handles every other game I've got, including Crysis
Because, as has already been said, GTA4 uses the CPU heavily compared to most games.
