Sup Facepunch...I've been a member here since April but haven't gotten around to posting yet. However, it's summer now and I feel I can be really active on here. Anyway, I'll get to the point. So I've had an Xbox 360 for a while now and last fall I got tired of the community on it and decided to venture forth into pc gaming. The one problem, is that I have a macbook. I've been playing CS and TF2 on it (using a trackpad...ugh) but have finally decided to build my own kick ass pc to run the games my macbook can only dream of playing (BC2, Witcher 2, eventually BF3, etc.) I do have a limited budget in that I have about $400 saved up and am selling my xbox and all the games/components/extras I've collected for another $450. Plus maybe squeeze an extra $100 out of my savings, but thats only if absolutely necessary. Here is my build: CPU | Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor) | $189.90 @ Amazon CPU Cooler | Cooler Master RR-B10-212P-G1 76.8 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler | $29.51 @ Amazon Motherboard | Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD3-B3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard) | $124.99 @ Amazon Memory | G.Skill Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory | $59.99 @ Newegg Hard Drive | Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive | $59.99 @ Newegg Video Card | EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB Video Card | $234.99 @ Amazon Case | NZXT Apollo Black NP ATX Mid Tower Case | $66.98 @ Newegg Power Supply | SeaSonic 620W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply | $90.98 @ Newegg Total (Prices include shipping and discounts when available.) | $857.33 My questions are: Will this be good for running past, current, and future games? My plan is to eventually upgrade to the highest Ivy Bridge next year when Intel rolls them out, but I feel this will be good for the time being. Also, since I don't really want to buy a monitor, I think I'll be using the 32" Samsung HDTV (1080p) that my xbox used to plug into. Will that cause me any issues if I'm just plugging it in straight to the HDMI output of the video card? Or will it cause a lot of strain? I look forward to hearing your insight. Dean

Slightly more expensive, but you get: Overclocking Better HDD Better graphics performance (@ 1080p) Better case 750w PSU for crossfire and overclocking (lower temps, longer efficiency and longer lifetime)
How long do those combo deals last? Cause I wont be getting the money for the xbox until the end of the month when my older cousin comes to visit and buys it for his kid.
CPU, spring for the 2500K: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 Cooler, Cooler Master Hyper 212+ (possibly the same cooler you have listed): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065 Mobo, ASRock Z68 PRO3 (budget ASUS company): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157251 I'd recommend 1600MHz memory, but that's your call. Here's some for another $25: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233144 HDD, Spinpoint F3 1TB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 Case, HAF 912: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119233 You're supposed to plug the display into the video out ports on the GPU, but 1080p resolution at 32" is a nasty dot pitch when you're sitting up close to it.
Newegg usually refreshes combo deals every once in awhile and remove some, but the two should last until the end of the month.
And read this. http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-6950-1gb-vs-geforce-gtx-560-ti-review/ [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] I got ninja'd on the CPU, CPU cooler, HDD, and case. I guess they're pretty popular here on Facepunch. [editline]12th June 2011[/editline] SeaSonic makes the best PSUs though. You can't go wrong with them.
corsair OEMs their PSUs, they use seasonic
Newegg usually refreshes combo deals every once in awhile and remove some, but the two should last until the end of the month.
Ok thank you so much I was wondering how I could pull off getting a 2500k for around the same price. Thanks man.
And read this. http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-6950-1gb-vs-geforce-gtx-560-ti-review/
Thanks for the article I'll definitely use a 6950 then. Is there a manufacturer you recommend? Armotekma recommended Sapphire, do you agree?
The Sapphire 6950 is the cheapest, but if you spend more you can get an XFX 6950 (double lifetime warranty)
The Sapphire 6950 is the cheapest, but if you spend more you can get an XFX 6950 (double lifetime warranty)
would the xfx be worth the extra money just for the warranty?
Actually, the XFX 6950 1GB is cheaper (by about 87 cents :v:) because it has free shipping, so go with that.
Actually, the XFX 6950 1GB is cheaper (by about 87 cents :v:) because it has free shipping, so go with that.
the reviews on newegg are very disheartening, but I'll take your recommendation
Ehh, if you really don't want to buy it; don't. It seems it's only that card, other reviews on their 6950s are pretty much all 5 eggs, everybody must have gotten a bad batch. [editline]13th June 2011[/editline] There's this if you're uncomfortable with the XFXs' reviews. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161368
ah thank you that is much better. youve been very helpful armotekma thank you so much. i'll be sure to use this build. thank you very much man. Dean
