I'd like to know what would be the optimum computer for the price ranges of 300, 500, and 1350 US dollars. Speakers, inputs, and monitor don't matter as I'll use the ones I have. The monitor's resolution is 1280 x 1024. To re-iterate my question, what would be the best computer for each of my budgets?

If you're going to be gaming and you need an OS, $300 won't work.
If you need an OS, $500 will get you a decent machine. Nothing too special but it'll play modern games at med-high depending on the game. If you can save older hard drives, cases, optical drives you can get something a bit better.
$1350 will for sure get you a machine that will max out almost anything.
