I got a new computer and my mic doesn't work now. Before you say "is it plugged in" , yes it is plugged in. I'm still using windows xp Home Edition 32bit just like the previous pc. It's really starting to piss me off because I like to use my mic while gaming.
what kind of mic is it? it might need drivers
what kind of mic is it? it might need drivers
It's a Logitech, I'm downloading drivers now.Hoping it will fix it.

You might need to set it do be the default microphone. I have to do that in 7 with my Logitech mic
Is it USB or a normal 3.5mm jack?
It's in the Jack. [editline]05:08PM[/editline]
You might need to set it do be the default microphone. I have to do that in 7 with my Logitech mic
How so?
There is an icon in your taskbar to the far right, that has the icon of a megaphone of some sort. Right click it, sound properties(?), and choose sound units. You should be able to choose what mic should be used there.

I will say it works when I can hear myself breathing into the mic and the sound is coming out of the headset. This morning I tested mic is voice recognition, and it picked my voice up and it could hear me and I could hear my voice in the headset. When I close voice recognition, I can't hear anything, like when I breathe into the mic.
Try setting it as your Default Communication Device when it's connected.
Try setting it as your Default Communication Device when it's connected.
Still nothing.
This sounds like a problem with the microphone configuration, alot of people wouldn't like to hear themselves back through their mic so by default you can't. Try going into your audio configuration panel and opening your mic properties, there should be an option 'Listen to this Device'. That will allow you to hear yourself speaking into the mic.

What you said looks like what the troubleshooting tips say on windows. I cant find whatever says like speech recognition under speech etc, its not there.
Maybe on your previous system that option was selected.
Ok, still not sure I understand your problem exactly but here's how I get to hear my voice on windows 7. Right click your speaker icon in the toolbar and select 'Recording Devices': Right click on your microphone and select 'Properties': Click the 'Listen to this device' box: You should now be able to hear yourself.
I'm using windows XP.
Try to find a similar setting then, also if you hear yourself fine over Voice recognition then the mic works, so I don't really get your problem here.
Ah, my bad. I guess hearing your own voice is down to personal preference. I'll see if I can find some info on XP. [editline]02:17PM[/editline] Found this question and answer, see if it works for you: http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-176007-how-can-i-hear-my-voice-in-my-speaker-in-live
