Fuck off, Apple. This takes proprietary bullshit to another level.
The Airpods aren't even included with iPhone 7. So, that's hilarious.
Can't wait for them to also claim that their proprietary headphones are also better than everything with the standard jack Lmao
The thing about earphones is that they can be super cheap. I've seen them for less than $10, and they work fine enough for a lot of people. Bluetooth headphones are great, but are really only for people who don't care about audio quality, are more expensive for worse quality, and are also more hassle with charging. Furthermore, I guess this is the death of car aux cables for Apple users - guess you gotta get a bluetooth receiever aux thing for the car? Jesus. 3.5mm headphone jacks are fine. They're taking away a feature, not adding one. That's always been my beef with Apple. They pride themselves on less and calling it more.
what's sad about this is that people will accept it, and other brands will follow
T H I N K D I F F E R E N T
6S is my last iPhone then. Fuck off Apple.
The Airpods aren't even included with iPhone 7. So, that's hilarious.
Wow, didn't know that $169 for THIS I'd expect it to come with a charger, but does it come with a backup pair when the first die?
what's sad about this is that people will accept it, and other brands will follow
This is another problem. Apple seriously affects a lot of other phones. Their stupid memory pricing and lack of support for SD cards has bled into too many phones - my LG G3 included. Apple has convinced people that the jump from a 16GB iPhone to a 64GB iPhone is somehow worth $100. Fuck. I don't think that people who use iPhones are retarded sheeple or anything like that - the core concept of keeping it simple and "just working" is great. My LG G3, even without being rooted, could be really complicated for someone like my mom. I'm peeved with Apple, who takes advantage of this by locking people into an ecosystem, hamfisting minimalism to the hindrance of productivity (one-button mice, one port for charging AND peripherals), and leading the entire mobile market downhill.
how is the lg g3 gimped? it has a removable battery, sd card slot, and 32gb of storage, and i paid ~$400 for it
Whoops, I'm a dumbass. I meant some of the phones I was looking at and very nearly got don't support expandable memory, and some don't support removable batteries. The whole Note 7 exploding battery is really sad not because they're exploding, but because you have to lose your entire phone because one component is locked out, and I totally think that's something inspired by iPhone's hands-off policy. If the batteries were removable, the company could have sent out fixed batteries, or people could opt into using after-market batteries, etc. I don't use my SD card (gave my 64 GB mini-SD to my brother) because I use my built-in memory plus lots of cloud services - I rarely use my phone for much more than chatting, music, and light browsing. I kind of loathe using phones. However, there was a time where I used my MyTouch to emulate games and rooted it to use custom ROM's. I also liked doing backups. All of that takes space on the SD card, and if I used my phone more often I'd totally want the extra space. Also, if I was an audiophile, I wouldn't be streaming my music, and would want the SD card.
how long until you can't listen to music and charge your phone unless you pay 150$ for special cords

theyre using lightning because apparently the 3.5mm jack prevented them from making the 7 thinner. which is fucking stupid

Laptops, mobile phones, tablets... they're all very lackluster, gimmicky, and extremely lacking. I ended up getting a refurbished ThinkPad because it wasn't trying to sell itself as a transforming touch-screen while also having 0 build quality and costing tons of money, and if it weren't for this laptop I would have stopped bothering with laptops altogether and perhaps gone the tablet route. Phones are similar in that they're becoming overloaded with apps that can't be uninstalled and taking after Apple's unhealthy love for minimalism and idiot-proofing to the detriment of functionality. (again, not that users are idiots, but they don't cater to experienced users very often) [editline]7th September 2016[/editline]
No one's going to follow. Apple has already pissed a lot of people off.
I hope that people decide to split since the head honcho isn't Steve Jobs and is screwing up. I don't like Steve Jobs, but people idolized that guy. This guy is not that guy and has made worse decisions since Jobs' passing.
theyre using lightning because apparently the 3.5mm jack prevented them from making the 7 thinner. which is fucking stupid
its funny how the 6 was so thin and fragile that people literally bent it by putting it in their pocket these fucking idiots don't realize that you need flexible hardware at this point. AKA, flexible screen, boards, everything.
theyre using lightning because apparently the 3.5mm jack prevented them from making the 7 thinner. which is fucking stupid
I want to know why Apple thinks thinner and lesser is better. I kind of like it when my phone feels like a brick. I've dropped my bomb-shelter of an LG G3 (extended battery with rubberized case) and it doesn't die after hitting the ground. Even without all that and a very basic case it's done fine. On the other hand, I see lots of people my age with shattered iPhones. And to think that they're going so thin that they're removing components is insane. When is the line going to be drawn? It won't even have a connector. Everything should be wireless
What BBC neglects to mention is that the adapter to 3,5mm is included with the phone. Most likely it'll also include the Apple earbuds updated to use the lightning cable, too, since i don't see them selling a phone with no earbuds included at all. I guess it's easier to get attention pushing a story that makes it seem like the phone is DoA rather than having an inconvenient tradeoff. I think the biggest problem is with them using Lightning over something universal like USB-C, since their push for digital output would be easier for everyone that way. I don't see them coming far unless their feature set is way above the equivalent or they use a standard that's open for everyone. Wireless audio sucks mostly because implementations of it are terrible or cost a ton to license. The airpods are probably proprietary as all hell, but they don't have to be bad for an average listener if they've made their own non-shit implementation of it. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how they've made it, but i'm not holding my breath for general improvements.

They ditched socket for the sake of waterproofing. Also phones will come bundled with headphones updated for new port and with this horrible adapter [img_thumb]http://store.storeimages.cdn-apple.com/4973/as-images.apple.com/is/image/AppleInc/aos/published/images/M/MX/MMX62/MMX62?wid=890&hei=890&fmt=jpeg&qlt=95&op_sharpen=0&resMode=bicub&op_usm=0.5,0.5,0,0&iccEmbed=0&layer=comp&.v=1472256277309[/img_thumb] It's worth mentioning that this will push market of other phones towards USB-C, so that's not so bad

AKA, flexible screen, boards, everything.
It was mostly shitty engineering and not much to do with the thinness. I don't recall any stories of the 6S bending the same way. Not disagreeing that it's stupid how thin they're making them though. I'd rather have a well-built brick with a huge battery, but all the mainstream brands are following the thinness trend too. It's weird as hell, as "3-4x battery life of competition" seems like a much better way to sell a phone over the competition compared to "0,5mm thinner" or "4K UHD Screen" or "6" diagonal"
Removing the headphone jack makes room for more components how exactly? I imagine they had to remove it to give us the wonderful and much demanded feature of force feedback on the home button. Thank you based Apple, now I can know when I've pressed the home button on the new iPhone. It was honestly hard to tell on older ones if I did because it didn't vibrate. The tactile clickiness and taking me out of the current open app just wasn't enough to give me feedback that I had pressed it. It's about time this feature was added.
hmm why couldn't they make a wireless 3.5mm Jack? charge it like everything else
Jesus i know apple has its fault but the bandwagon is strong in this thread
