Are they being nice or getting desperate?
Are they being nice or getting desperate?
Please read article:
Forge Island was supposed to launch on April 11 but as it's now passed cert, 343 Industries tossed it out today for all to enjoy for free.
Wow its such a shitty map haha Its just a bunch of flat topped pedestals in an ocean. Forge World still kicks the shit out of it.

Just some flat spaces... Plus the rest of forge is still fucked anyways. Until they fix everything else they ruined I'm not going to bother with it.

I mean, Halo: Reaches 'Cage' map was forged right in mid-air, so it's not like it's limiting you, it's just less to look at. I think that isn't a problem for a map designed purely for functionality.

Give us a flat space AND some other interesting areas on the same map. I always said the pillar on Forge world should have been bigger and flatter, just like the ones on forge island, that's all it needed to be the perfect forging space.
So it took them this long.... to give us this. are you serious 343, a straight port from reach would have been better than what is essentially 3 large platforms with grass textures.

Why would they stick a bunch of non-flat terrain in the midst of that and chew up the consoles' resources on a map that's designed specifically for fulfilling the request of "Large, flat space" people have had for quite a long time?

It fucking ugly as all hell. Its just fucking lazy is what it is. There's nothing to it, and its just plain uninteresting. So now if we want to forge in an environment that isn't a flat plane, we need to work in the same shitty difficult spaces we had before. And again, there's no fucking reason it should have taken them this long.

It uses the same textures as the rest of the game, and there's nothing objectively wrong with the skybox. Do you just not like the shape of the island or something?
Why is it ugly? It uses the same textures as the rest of the game, and there's nothing objectively wrong with the skybox. Do you just not like the shape of the island or something?
Its literally just a few islands sticking up in an ocean. There's NOTHING interesting about it. The textures are fine, the skybox is fine, the design is pathetic. In forge world, you felt like you were actually on a Halo. Like the world was actually A WORLD. Now its just you're in a map with some flat islands.
Its literally just a few islands sticking up in an ocean. There's NOTHING interesting about it.
I'm not entirely how you you make "Minimalistic large, flat spaces" interesting.
Its literally just a few islands sticking up in an ocean. There's NOTHING interesting about it.
Yeah, it's exactly what they intended to make, it's up to US to make it interesting.
Wow are you really being this stubborn? 343 made this map as a completely flat map with varying spaces, something forge players have wanted for years. Forge World was nice but its flat spaces did not compare to this map and it ate up resources taking away from your budget. Forge Island is not being designed for looks, it is being designed for Forge builders to get creative and make cool structures for people to play in. It's not designed for people like you yet, it's designed for the forgers to make something interesting for you.

And you know what, maybe I would let it slide- wouldn't be so bitter about it- if they hadn't fucked the game up in nearly every other aspect of a Halo game outside of forge.

You cant win with some people, its like you're finding excuses to hate 343.
Let's be honest, I'd venture that quite a bit of the reason behind Forge Island was damage control akin to ME3 Extended Cut.
Forge Island is amazing! 343i did an amazing job of creating new objects! Like trees! Which were totally not ported from Valhalla in Halo 3. Hell they even gave us enough to not even fill up the smallest island! How about this: port Forge World AND have this nice islandy map? Surely it can't be that hard/expensive, and then everyone gets something nice
Bitch bitch moan moan, no flat spaces to build on in Forge. 343 finally gives flat spaces. Bitch bitch moan moan uninteresting design. You cant win with some people, its like you're finding excuses to hate 343.
I felt like both the Forge World's citadel and landing above it worked wonders, not to mention the citadel walls made perfect improvised floors for building in the air. A lack of flat spaces was a problem to some, but it was never my problem. The lack of well designed and interesting space was. This new map has neither. So now we have this crap on top of the other three spaces which are painfully small, and poorly designed to be built in, and have constricting and small in bounds areas but forge in general has fewer objects, objects that were ripped from Reach and given terrible new UNSC-based textures on forerunner geometry, the removal of nudging or fine editing, broken as fuck magnets, and the removal of proper gametype editing and an effective sharing system to get maps that people have made. All the way down to the obnoxious as fuck sound that plays in monitor mode. They fucked it up. This did 2 things right. Trait zones, and the fact this map has an ocean that isn't immediately off limits. But they need to fix a whole lot more.
Are people actually complaining that a map that wasnt intended to be played in its vanilla state is boring and shitty looking If you want fucking "well designed and interesting space" you're either going to have to wait for people to make such things WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF PROVIDING AN EMPTY MAP LIKE THIS or for official map packs to be released, which they're probably going to keep doing.
If you want fucking "well designed and interesting space" you're either going to have to wait for people to make such things WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF PROVIDING AN EMPTY MAP LIKE THIS or for official map packs to be released, which they're probably going to keep doing.
1. Irrelevant. I want to build maps, waiting for others to do it won't sate that. 2. I don't want to build in an empty space. What if I want hills, a cave, etc? You can't terraform the map, so the map needs to be interesting, which it isn't. 3. Maps not made for forge don't have access to forge building blocks, meaning its not worth forging on them for pretty much anything other than modifying weapon and player spawns.
god it's like people complaining that gm_flatgrass isn't varied enough
god it's like people complaining that gm_flatgrass isn't varied enough
gm_flatgrass has more variety then Forge Island and it's not even DLC. [sp] yeaaah I kind of got gm_construct mixed up with gm_flatgrass. My mistake![/sp]
Just downloaded it and tried it out. I want a refund.
gm_flatgrass has more variety then Forge Island and it's not even DLC.
gm_flatgrass is literally just flat fucking grass
