Sup. So, I realize right out the gate that Having a Cracked Ipod/Iphone screen is not covered by the warranty at all. But I would love to see if anyone could verify something for me. I've been reading up on the subject, and for the most part, I've only been able to find cases of people getting their iphones repaired by apple (and grossly overpaying to do so) but, I have yet to see anyone say that apple repaired their Ipods screen. And, as I drifted from site to site, each number for the repair value differed. (some as high as $249 and others as low as $50). So, my question is this: Can apple repair my Ipod touch (4th generations) screen, and will I be over charged if they are? Many thanks.
Yes and probably.
I'm pretty sure they'll just get you a new one
It cost me $120 to replace my old iPod after I cracked its screen, but it was a 2g 8GB. YMMV
Woah. What a coincidence. I cracked my iPod screen so badly, that I dare not touch it incase broken glass cuts my fingers. I have been wondering the same thing. Same gen iPod, too.
I managed to get a glass splinter with my old 2g, shit was not cash. That day, I bought a case and a screen protector in store and had them apply it not even seconds after opening it. Apple geniuses are really cool people.
Speaking of which, I've been trying to get a screen protector for my iPod Touch 2G for ages. Anywhere I can get a really cheap (as in price, not quality) one online?
Amazon probably.
Hmm..I'll check it out later. Thanks!
If you're not under a standard warranty then you will have to pay. But, you can get it fixed / replaced.
Their warranty won't cover a cracked screen unless you can make it seem like it was fault of a defect, in which case you are an asshole.
I got my screen and digitizer replaced and shipped back to me for $99
'Sup. [editline]24th September 2011[/editline] Poor mans fix on cracked screens, go duct tape
To be honest prevention is the best part. Good case on my iPod and good case on my phone and I practically can throw it around! Then again I have zaggs on both :v: But zaggs ain't got shit on duct tape.
You can easily replace the screen yourself, it's actually easier than you think. Be warned that prying is needed.
90% of the time you'll fuck up the rubber liner. Unless you're REALLY careful and have the right tools.
I heard it's pretty easy to replace it yourself, and much cheaper. Look on google for a few guides and see if it's within your capabilities.
90% of the time you'll fuck up the rubber liner. Unless you're REALLY careful and have the right tools.
Nearly anything is replaceable. A lot of sellers on eBay often gives you a set of tools for free.

I don't understand screen protectors. They just scratch up on regular use and you'd have to change them every once in a while. I've been using my age-old iPhone 3G for months without one and the screen is still in pristine condition. And don't get Chinese replacements for the screen, they suck.
If you get a Zagg then your point is basically null, it's durable as hell and reduces fingerprints. And to be fair every scratch on your screen protector could have been a scratch on your screen.
I broke the screen on my gen 4 ipod touch and apple gave me a replacement for free
How do people treat their stuff so badly I've almost had my iPod touch for a year now and it's just got a small dent in the side and a scratched back (shit case).
Pepper;32545224']How do people treat their stuff so badly I've almost had my iPod touch for a year now and it's just got a small dent in the side and a scratched back (shit case).
IMO I usually see poor treatment when it's not them who bought it so they don't think they're wasting their money Bought both my phone and my iPod with money I earned and I treat them well, screen protector on both, case on iPod, looking for a small case for my phone. To be fair a lot of breaking of shit is accidental but that's why you protect it
I got my 4g touch as a gift, already with a case.I'm worried about the screen getting damaged and was wondering how to tell if there already is a screen protector on it or not. [editline]3rd October 2011[/editline] From what I can tell the camera on the front as well as the button as inside a depressed hole. By that I mean they are not on the glass, as in you cannot side your finger across without feeling the little hole. From What I can see on the button there looks like there is a second coating. The edges between the button and the uppermost glass is sharp, it doesn't curve into the glass. On the top of the button(top as in direction towards screen and camera) It looks like the button's edges hit a edge, then about 1/10th of a millimeter there is another edge.
http://www.digiexpress.us/Replacement-Screen-Assembly-for-the-iPod-Touch-4G-_p_248.html I'd just do it yourself. Often replacement assemblies come with new seal, so no worries if you break it.
I'd need both front and back, as when I dropped mine the backplate got bent and that's what cracked my screen. http://www.digiexpress.us/iPod-Touch-4G-Backplate_p_265.html
I don't think anybody would repair my iPod touch Water damage Cracked screen with missing triangle of glass Ripped internal speaker from playing music out loud faulty headphone jack Scratched to fuck metal backplate Non-functional lock button Apps no longer open Only half the touch screen works I can still listen to music on it though, if I want to only skip songs forward, and keep the headphone jack perfectly level V:v:V
If it's in warranty just tell them you took it out of your back pocket one day and it was cracked My friend lied to them like that after he broke the screen himself and they replaced it for free
I dropped my 4th generation 8 gig iTouch a few weeks ago on a tennis court, screen got demolished, then I just brought it to an Apple store (I didn't even buy it there) and they gave me a brand new one, free. I had even been jailbroken - I just reset it and upgraded to 4.3.5 and they asked no questions about it.
