So...last year Samsung tried to push it and their phones blew up..
This year Samsung largely played it safe, and everyone's complaining that's it's too same-y to the S series.

They should've just integrated the pen into the S8+ and called it a day tbh.

Rather not. Rarely used the SPen on my note 5 so I opted for the S8+ as an alternative

The note series have always just been the current S-phone with the SPen and usually better specs. IMHO nobody actually uses the pen and just wants the better specs, might as well just not waste time/money on including the pen.

I do know some people who really like the pen for quick sketches, doodles, and note taking. It's a pretty unique thing that beats the pants off of using a crappy capacitive stylus.
Also, didn't the Note 7 include a handful of newer features over the S7 like the Iris scanner?

I use the pen fairly often. It's useful for games in the Jackbox Party Pack, drawing is a good way to kill time if bored, any doodling over pictures or snapchat messages is so much easier than with a finger, and even just today I used it to draw and explain coterminal angles because I didn't have a piece of paper readily available.

I remember using the pen for the Jackbox Party Pack back when I had a Note phone, it definitely was nice. I never really hear about people using the pen all that much though like in reviews or through word of mouth, which is why I was questioning if it's even being used.
I couldn't really do much with the small screen size though. I tried multiple times to take handwritten notes, but it was too hard to write words small enough to fit what I needed, and I only had like 2 bullet points of very few words.
Guess I have some bias with personal experience though.
