Is this much better than Empire? I really like Empire but saw no point in getting Napoleon
Is this much better than Empire? I really like Empire but saw no point in getting Napoleon
I played Empire after Napoléon, and there was only one ting that lacked IMO : in Napoléon you can "liberate" some of the regions instead of adding them to your territory, creating small protectorates. It's useful if your at war very far from your capital and you don't want to have an unconnected territory which is annoying to manage. Otherwise, Empire is somewhat better because Napoléon has some kind of scenario. [editline]14th June 2012[/editline] And there's a multiplayer campaign mode in Napoléon IIRC.
Empire is better because there is already a multiplayer campaign mod made by creative assembly for empire total war. Also with empire total war being much bigger in campaign it's totally worth it over Napoleon. Plus campaign multiplayer is annoying in Napoleon because NAPOLEON IS A CHEATING BASTARD.
A weaker entry in the series as a whole but still well worth a play if you are interested in the time period.
Napoleon Total War offers you only one theater which is Europe. However, it is much more in-depth and detailed as compared to Empires. The units look more colorful and they look more representative of their respective nations. The 'tunnel-vision-like' campaign pits you against France and if you pick France you go against all of Europe for most.
Is this much better than Empire? I really like Empire but saw no point in getting Napoleon
Depends. If you want the best multiplayer battles, go for Napoleon. It's much smoother and more streamlined in nearly every way, which helps when playing PvP battles. However, if you want a really good singleplayer campaign experience, go for Empire.
I recommend it, if you like total war or line battles in general. Napoleon war historically is quite interesting.
Not even worth trying. A terrible game that even surpassed its predecessors' sometimes clumsy AI with absolutely batshit stupid AI. Even after all the patches, several artillery crew from Arty units literally run towards the enemy while the cannons fire. Only the big nations are competitive to play and the community is the worst found in any RTS, ever, filled with self righteous arseholes who suck the fun out of the game by doing everything from completely disobeying match rules to getting furious with you for petty mistakes. There is also the PW DLC that lets Spain place an Army or a small batch of units right at the edge of your deployment zone in deployment. One of the units that can do this is also Cavalry. So it becomes extremely frustrating when 30 seconds after the match has started all of your artillery is annihilated and you don't even realize until the unit card flashes red and the advisor goes nuts.
I like Napoleon a lot more than Empire, although it is on a much smaller scale considering the factions and world map. It is entirely focused on Europe, the Napoleon campaign itself is not really my cup of tea. To much restrictions and a crazy time limit. But the Coalition campaigns are really great to play, it is surely better than Empire in terms of gameplay and such. I would get it for this cheap price.
I hate Napoleon total war, the Italian campaign puts you at such a massivly unfair disadvantage and stops you from making smart decisions e.g. getting military access through Venice rather than invading. The ai cheats aswell, once I was in a battle where I needed reinforcements and as soon as my general and artillery came out of the map they were cavalry charged and wiped out before I could do anything.

I got the game a few days ago and I can only play as Britain, Prussia, Russia and Austria. Am I missing something?
It's napoleons campaign in Italy.
I had this game for ages but never actually played it I guess I should try
Is this much better than Empire? I really like Empire but saw no point in getting Napoleon
Yes more units, more polish, less bugs
The game is good IMO The only Total War game I ever played is Shogun 2 so I don't really know how it is compared to previous Total War games
I only just got back into it. Its great with a couple of mods. There are also more total conversion mods for Napoleon then Empire (Great war. Zulu)
Eh not as good as Empire I reckon, should probably skip this. The featured Napoleon campaign is far too strict and doesn't allow for you the player to make too many decisions. Fair enough I guess. There is only one theatre (Europe) while Empire gives you India and the Americas. To give you an idea of how much more replayability Empire would have, you could enjoy a feature-packed long campaign in Empire and never set foot in another theatre. The game also presents a far greater variety of factions, pretty much all the major factions in Europe at the time, Ottoman Empire, Maratha Confederacy (Indian faction) and the United States. Also the smaller things kind of make a difference. In Empire your musket units can employ different disciplines while in battle, such as platoon firing (the line fires slowly from one end to another, so a never stopping barrage of bullets) and rank firing (first line fires and ducks, second line fires and ducks and so on) do not exist in Napoleon for some reason. I really didn't like in Napoleon how musket units would only have the people in it fire at will, they don't employ and form of discipline at all such as waiting for everyone else to reload before firing again (only units that did fire at will in Empire were the militia units and their equivalents, standard line infantry wait until everyone in the line has reloaded before unleashing a massive barrage).

All you have to do is turn off fire at will and when an enemy units get close, turn it on and the whole line will fire in a massive volley, turn it off and let them fully reload and you can do it again.
I initially saw "Napoleon's Total War-Free Weekend" and assumed this was some parody game starring Napoleon and his zany adventures over the summer. Then it made sense.
A really good game, I reccomend you check it out.

I didn't like napoleon at all, it felt like empire with half the content cut out and a layer of gray added to it (seriously everything in napoleon is so much more gray and dull looking than empire). If you want a good total war experience, play Rome or Medieval 2, easily the best installments in the franchise. Empire is great too, but not my favorite. Also if you're a warhammer fan, check out the medieval 2 mod called Call of Warhammer, it's a bear to install but PM me if you need help.
Get this for the vanilla. Then after you play that a couple times get the WW1 mod. They are coming with tanks next patch.
I actually really liked the depth in Napoleon. But then again, I had just finished reading War and Peace so I probably was a little biased.
in order of my personal favourites: shogun 2, empire, napoleon (get shogun instead)
I bought it. Having bought Empire long ago, I only recently installed it and began playing. Having found the roman time period more interesting than the 18th century, I was reluctant at first. However after playing Empire total war, I began reading and watching movies about Napoleon. I must say, it's far more interesting than most people give it credit for. So when I saw it half price today, I bought it. Can't wait to play those historical battles. The added WW1 mod the community has been making is also a selling point for me.
Bought it during that sale where the complete pack was like 12 bucks
The WW1 mod gave me PTSD.
