It's released on my birthday <3
Donnelly reported the legend of the hermit; a holy man who sought solitude in its most pure form. Allegedly, he rowed here from the mainland in a boat without a bottom, so all the creatures of the sea could rise at night to converse with him. How disappointed he must have been with their chatter. Perhaps now, when all that haunts the ocean is the rubbish dumped from the tankers, he’d find more peace. Sorry, I just really like that quote.
Those wind sounds alone make me fucking cum.
It's so beautiful looking, fucking hell i want it even if it is just wandering about an island.
I'll wait for a sale, or just spend my $10 anyways. Looks pretty neat.
I'm just waiting for a hidden room with coordinates on a wall that lead to an actual uninhabited island :v:
i really love Dear Esther, if for nothing else than showing how excellent source can look with a bit of work i wonder if they've actually modified the engine/game to bring the graphics up to date, or if they're just put an insane amount of effort into the level design? if it's the latter, valve should invest some time in a better editor (WYSIWYG) and i'm sure there'll be a huge burst in source mods and even licensees.
Have been following this since the early days. Looking great. [editline]18th January 2012[/editline] Shows that the artist can make a bigger difference than the choice of engine.
I've been liking story driven things lately, I'll probably get this. Although "story driven" doesn't do it justice I suppose.
When I played the original, I kept thinking I was going in the wrong direction. Are their multiple paths in the game? I wanted to do a recorded playthrough of it, sans Let's Play, but don't want to screw up.

I don't know if they perhaps added some alternate paths in the remake, but I doubt it.
Wow, that looks stunning. I'm assuming it's the same as the original with updated graphics?
Wow, that looks stunning. I'm assuming it's the same as the original with updated graphics?
Updated everything really. It's a total remake afaik
If only the next Half-Life installment would look like this.
Wow, that looks stunning. I'm assuming it's the same as the original with updated graphics?
He remade the maps, sounds, textures, animations, shaders, environment, etc. If you had checked his work log on some of the stuff including some of his terrain modeling timelapses you would be absolutely blown away by the detail. Quite honestly, I've never seen source look anywhere near this beautiful. I can't wait to play it.
That is probably the best atmosphere that i have seen in a game. The music and everything its so fucking amazing.
This looks so good it's hard to believe this is Source at first glance.
Why would I pay $10 for a long walk on the beach simulator?
I have some of the sheet music to Dear Esther. I emailed the composer about year ago, and she told she was redoing the score and would email me some of sheets when she was done. And after a year, to my surprise she emailed me back with the music. Pretty Awesome I have to say.
It's so beautiful looking, fucking hell i want it even if it is just wandering about an island.
Come to think of it, there was a CryEngine 2 mod with this huge interactive island. Shit was beautiful, really incredible
Being born and raised in the Outer Hebrides, I can account for the realistic visuals of the game. Feels just like home.
I'll post a link in the actually Dear Esther thread.
Why would I pay $10 for a long walk on the beach simulator?
Calling a mod focused on telling a story, with absolutely beautiful atmosphere, and stunning visuals a "long walk on the beach simulator". Have you even played the original?
Why would I pay $10 for a long walk on the beach simulator?
clopclop
I wonder if the music is actually performed or if it's synthesized.
According to the Steam page it's partially randomly generated. Should give it more replay value at least.
