Looks like the rumors were true, Valve closed up their hardware division.
Hmmm, I guess that all that went on was exploring the concept and making prototypes. I wonder why they didn't make their own official version?
At least Valve tried! But surely another company who makes PCs would jump into business with Valve about a Steam-based console/PC.
The worst thing of this is they fired the lead programer of steam box looks like valve is having a big bad problem with consoles.
Maybe valve gave up on that VR thing that the oculus rift already does
I still don't understand this whole hardware thing they're trying/were trying to do. I'm not a hardware expert or anything but I can't imagine it would have been seriously successful

Not surprised that this happened. I don't think even a developer like Valve could assemble a team with propper hardware knowledge to compete with the big boys.

I don't think the whole division is gone, they might have just decided that there was "too much" hardware going on and the team wasn't willing to move into another department so they opted to leave.
Moby Francke, art lead of TF2, and Bay Raitt, lead of SFM, are gone too
Oh my god what's going on in there I'm seriously worried

Art lead of TF2? Oh fuck i don't like where this is going :suicide:

Wow that seems dumb (if they got fired, not if they left on their own). I mean if the point of this downsizing was getting rid of the hardware division why get rid of them? But we'll probably never know the reason...

I'm not surprised someone involved with TF2 got fired, the devs have been lazy sacks of shit ever since community made items were added, Valve rarely if ever adds content made by themselves anymore.
I mean it took them nearly three fucking years to make a generic robot-themed defend the base gamemode.
The "TF2 Team" is probably very small and they TF2 is probably a secondary project for them. I would imagine the art director would be working on DotA 2 and / or their next project (since the art for DotA 2 seems done). Same with any programmers on TF2.

TF2's artstyle is already ruined anyway, so it won't change much.

Valve's employee system require people to be self-motivated and above all, find a way to be productive. It could be that these folks just didn't have much interest in the current projects, or in case of the hardware folks, they were no longer needed. Then you just have to leave.
It's not like they'll have trouble finding new work with Valve on their CV though.

What is Valve doing?
Moby Francke, art lead of TF2, and Bay Raitt, lead of SFM, are gone too
Bay Raitt, since when!? I've got that guy added on Steam.

maybe their work is done???
i mean, tf2 already has plenty of modders and hat makers that can easily sustain the game by themselves and there's not much more you can do with sfm until source 2 comes out.
It begins.

If the people are voluntarily leaving because they feel like they have done enough for a game then yes but this isn't the case (or is it?).
Maybe there won't be HL3 during my lifetime..
