I'm a huge Halo fan but I honestly hope they make it less... soul-less in Halo 5. Halo 4 is great but there's nothing spectacular about it other than the technology boundaries it pushes on the consoles.
In my opinion, they should have focused on a different character. Chiefs story was over and there wasn't really any reason for him to be around anymore.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for the time being, And hope that Halo 5 is going to be more... I dunno... Halo-ish?
It felt that they have forgotten everything that made a Halo game, a Halo game. At least in Multiplayer anyway. Which is mind boggling strange because I'm pretty sure half of 343 stayed on from Bungie. I can understand they are trying to be separate from Bungie but, seriously. Don't forget the roots and foundations that the games are so well known for.
Halo 4's multiplayer can be enjoyable, but they need to sort out the balance issues, limited playlists and game mode options. I want to play classic Halo, none of this ordinance pointstreak nonsense, and i would really like custom games to have more options than Halo Reach, not less. That alone makes me scratch my head and ask "what the fuck was the entire studio smoking?".

It's debatable but the story kind of finished with Chief in Halo 4 and I don't see why they need to continue with him other than he's the flagship guy for the series but the campaign in H4 was so... ugh.
It takes so many bad aspects with the current gen - waypoints up the ass (because we're too stupid to figure anything out), an enemy so fucking annoying it's infuriating to play against at times, bad acting and Cortana always fucking shouting "OMG DO THIS" (I thought Jen Taylor was a better v/a but she really lacked in 4) They overlooked so many aspects of what made the previous games so great, you were going on a journey not trying to figure out how to "stop da big bad dood", the Pseudo-open world aspect to it all and the fact there was quite a bit of comedy thrown about.
And bloom

BLOOOOOOM
Also the Halo thread can attack me for this but they're taking too many aspects from modern shooters, Halo needs to stay as Halo, not try to switch it up too much. Halo: Reach had the perfect balance of changes.
343 says DLC fiasco, I say DLC success. Everyone likes free DLC, except Microsoft of course.
I dunno, I didn't like the story at all, it didn't feel like Halo to me. The multiplayer was perfectly fine aside from the Covenant Carbine being such a useless weapon.

It takes a full mag to take someone's shield meanwhile the BR takes around 5 bursts and the DMR takes 4-5 shots.

Honestly I would not want a sequel to Halo 4 where chief isn't the main character, its just that he feels so integrated into the series with me.
Compared to Halo 3, i think Halo 3 still feels a lot more funner to play (its more arcadish and doesn't require that much to think about where to hide or what 'ability' you should activate on certain times).
We are already starting to run out of fun, fast (.. Depends on what gamemode/map) paced shooters so don't give this in to the modern shooters sausage fest.

If you want classic Halo multiplayer, then why don't you play classic Halo multiplayer?

I really didnt like the story. It was just Cortona saying "hey do this and shoot that and destroy this." It was annoying as fuck. The multiplayer i think they need to just make simple like Halo 3.
Completed Halo 4 minutes ago. Wouldn't say it's bad, I quite liked the visuals and new enemies to fight. Otherwise it was just... Halo.
Now on to the multiplayer.
I would say that the only thing Halo 4 failed at would be Spartan Ops. They built it up like it was going to be an episodic campaign to expand the Halo universe but it's really just a go here, kill a million covenant/Prometheans, and press a button to end the mission. On the same recycled maps over and over!
People will argue that any free content is good content, but I feel like spartan ops is just like 343 giving us the main campaign over again without any story elements.

Halo should strive to be like Halo, not Call of Duty.

I hope not. Master Chief has been there since the start and the series should revolve around him as the character. It's a huge continuing story that needs to be continued, not stopped.
Halo: Reach is an excellent example of this. Too many people including me, say that it didn't feel like Halo because Chief wasn't in it. He's the hero.

That's funny, because ODST and Reach felt more like Halo to me than Halo 4.
Both games had great moments that made me just sit back and go "whoa". Spectacle moments. ODST had the city itself, the collapse of the space elevator, and many other moments. Reach had the death of Jorge and the last last level. Those are moments I think about when I look back at those games.
But 4? The only level in that game that stood out was the death star trench run like ship section. Everything else just felt so stale and flat. It felt soulless, like it was obvious that Bungie had no part in it. There was no memorable cast of supporting characters, and the villain was the most two-dimensional flat cardboard cutout ever.
It seems like they fell into the 'fan built sequel' pit.
Basically, a studio filled with big fans of a game are going to make it a personal pet project and focus on an aspect they liked.
For instance, Halo 4's campaign was pretty awesome, I'd venture to say it was the best yet in visuals, challenge, and fun imo.
The problem is, after pouring all this effort into the single player, they got to the multi-player part and just went 'ehh just throw in something that will work' and it shows.
I could of done without the bad soap opera. Chief has the emotional depth of a brick wall in the games, and the sudden overly clingy, emotional Cortana lacked proper development; don't rely on your damn books for character development and then try and tack it on in the game.
Will halo 4 come out for PC, or must I make friends with a console owner to play it?

Im glad im not the only one who thought ODST was a great game.

I wouldn't count on a PC release.

But then they would be doing the same thing over and over again, not unlike Call of Duty.
Also, many of the things that Halo supposedly "stole" from Call of Duty were actually in other games prior to Call of Duty.

The last Halo PC release was the Halo 2 port, which came out shortly after Vista's release and also got barely any sales and fairly poor reception, so there's pretty much no chance of any other Halo game being released on PC any time soon, let alone H4.
Halo 4 was alright. I thought the story was bad and really short, and the multiplayer just didn't hold my interest for very long at all. It was decent fun while it lasted, but it just wasn't even close to being as good as the last couple games.

I too loved ODST. Especially when walking through the dark and deserted New Mombasa and listening to the moody soundtrack.

Oh man, that soundtrack is amazing. One of the best in the series.
Halo 4 was in no way my favorite Halo overall, but I still enjoy every single second of it. Halo has always been a social experience for me, and me and my friends both online and off can get together and have the same amount of fun with Halo 4's MP. I look forward to seeing 343 Industries learning from Halo 4's short comings and providing us with a Halo experience that surpasses the Bungie legacy in Halo 5. Oh and I can't even imagine how good Halo 5 look and feel since it's confirmed to be a next gen title!
This is the best Halo they have made in a while. I just wished they could patch and fix a lot of bugs in the MP, they don't seem to care as much anymore. Also, I ranked up way too fast. There should be a 1-50 trueskill ranking. I'm already a 130.
