• I have one week to decide on a new laptop for school.

Honest to God, help! I am open to as many suggestions as possible. I'll try to narrow it down to what I really need so I can make it easier. What I really need is portability. Size matters--nothing over 14-15 inches please. I'll be mostly using this laptop for basic school stuff, I would like it if the laptop could run Traktor without high latency ( 2.0 ghz processor, 2 gig ram, ect.), but this isn't required. Most important is the hard drive--I cannot deal with a 80 GB hard drive, it's just not going to be possible. Might be asking much, but around 500 dollars would be nice. No more than 900 USD please. Which company is the best value? Any I should stay away from? Are the mini laptops like Asus EEE any good? Are there some better values? I have a week to become an expert at this. Basically my mother told me I have a week to decide on one or my stepdad will choose one for me. I didn't even know they were going to help me buy one, but they insist I have one for school.
Netbooks won't have the power to do what you're talking about.

Oh, that's what Traktor is? I thought it was some kind of modeling program. :downs:
I could be wrong this is what google said http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-pro/
Dell Business (NOT HOME, NO EXCEPTIONS) and it's associated product lines is an above par laptop supplier, you can also save $50 if you get it without windows and if you do get it with windows make sure they send you the actual windows disks (I recall the MS OEM agreement says they have to give them to you for free) and that you get the x64 version if your applications are compatible.
Proof please, Pictures or we all think your a troll.
I've done it on my Medion E1210 (MSI Wind Rebadge) What he said, around 30-50 FPS empty maps But that's just because i've heavily modified it with MSI bios to allow overclocking and modded the heatsinks etc

This I have to see maybe netbooks are that bad for playing small games
They play loads better with overclocking I usually use the GMA booster and clock the GMA950 to 400MHz and the Atom to around 1.9-2.0 GHz
Oh, that's what Traktor is? I thought it was some kind of modeling program. :downs:
Traktor scratch pro is a DJing program. I have an external ASIO sound card and for the timecoded vinyls to work smooth, I need relatively low latency. Problem is I don't think I'll be using this laptop for gigs any time soon. Does anyone know how hard it is to upgrade a netbook's RAM? Is it just like on a desktop?

Not sure about other netbooks, but an Acer Aspire One you have to basically pull the whole thing apart, the RAM's in the bottom but you can only access it from the top and you have everything else in the way
or get a lenovo and save money http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146582
Wouldn't this be a slightly better deal? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146534 As much as I like the portability of the netbooks, I'm absolutely appalled at the terrible CPUs in all of them. Mom told me to share this laptop with my brother, and he wants to run some games (not crysis or anything like that) on it so, I think I better go for a bigger laptop.
Is this brother of yours an annoying little one?
Is this brother of yours an annoying little one?
Yes, but I love him. He takes care of computer stuff more than I do.
Yes, but I love him. He takes care of computer stuff more than I do.
My little brother makes me lag in games and gives me crap download speeds, due to his compulsive youtube game playthrough addiction.
