• $500 on craigslist bought computer plus upgrade?

There's probably about 1000 $500 computers on Craigslist, the majority of them are even gaming computers. Now, would risking the chance in getting a used computer and upgrading the GPU (maybe ram) be worth the risk? or should I just waste 1k on an all new system? Obviously it's going to differ from computer to computer, im just asking for a basic answer. Obviously if the computer looks like shiz it's not worth it. I'm talking "wow this looks like a legit computer for the price" ads.
Just build it from scratch, that way you have a warranty on the parts and don't potentially end up with an IED PSU or the like.
Good point, thanks.
Most of the pc's on there are really really horrible.
Most of the pc's on there are really really horrible.
The computers on CL are about the same as the computers on Ebay with features like: - Rice cases - CCFLs - Colored fans - IED PSU - Generic Motherboard - Weak CPU (Intel G6xx LOL) - Generic RAM - Weak GPU (ie, GT620, 550, 4xx, etc.) - Garbage hard drive And use flashy advertisements with misinformation like saying a CPU is all 4 cores added up GHZ! Pigs would fly if there ever was a honest computer seller on one of those sites.
I love looking at those computers because just by looking at the case I know it's a gimmick. Rarely will you find a seller on any of those sites that's not actually ripping you off so don't bother looking, I just looked on Ebay UK right now searching for "Gaming PC" and it just comes up with like thousands of gimmick shit and one or two decent deals. It's best you just build it yourself if you're comfortable with doing so (use a guide to assist in the process) since you also get the warranty and all that.
Pigs would fly if there ever was a honest computer seller on one of those sites.
The problem is, it's very hard to be honest with those kind of sites because you can get more money if you sell to a computer illiterate and lets be realistic here, people want to make the most money possible in private sales. Why sell to a computer literate for £300 when you can sell to an idiot for double the amount? [editline]28th March 2013[/editline] And they know that sites like CL are ripe with people who have no idea what they are on about.
