Hey guys, i just wanted to know which one i should choose.
Im looking to play BF3 at a decent framerate and hopefully a GPU that will last for a long time.
And yes, price does play a role in this.
This really doesn't make any sense. The GTX 580 is around double the price of the HD 6870, obviously it's better. This price range is too big.
If you want a card that will last a long time then the 580 is the way to go, it's also the expensive way to go.
You also haven't told us your specs. You could have a huge CPU bottleneck, or your PSU might not be sufficient. There aren't enough details to make a proper response.
Upper midrange cards such as the 6950/6970 (or 560ti/570) generally provide the best bang for your buck. You'll get <=20% less performance but for half the price of the 580.
I just remembered. If you're playing BF3 your best bet is to grab an AMD card. Despite being much cheaper the HD 6970 matches or beats out the GTX 580 in Battlefield 3. The problem is that they don't handle AA very well in it for some reason and performance drops rapidly. If you're content with using post processing AA(MLAA/FXAA) then the 6970 is definitely the best bang for your buck.
I've been recommending people this Sapphire HD 6950 2GB. Beside the crossfire port on the card is a small switch. If you flip this switch the shaders unlock and the card becomes a 6970. All you have to do is set the clock speeds to the 6970 ones and you've gotten a 6970 for $80 less than normal.
Here's the card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102954
Here is a graph showing performance on high settings at 1920x1200 in Battlefield 3. As you can see even at the very high resolution the 6970 performs very well.

580 GTX for maximum BF3 playin' yo.

Except an unlocked 6950 runs it just as well for 1/2 the price but if you ignore that then ya get the 580.
