My xbox 360 has resolution problems and I need help.

I have been running my xbox 360 through the component cable (with 1080i (the maximum)) and I've always wanted to run it in full HD because the component cable (that came with the 360) is snapping anyway.
So tonight I bought it and I plug it into my TV. It now says "Mode not supported" I have a Samsung TV but I'm not sure which one. I then plugged the component cable back in to ensure that I could run it back through 1080i and then all of a sudden it started running in 480p.
Whenever I select 1080i again it goes back to 480p. It's pissing me off.
Please Facepunch, I need help.
Bumping because I really need help

I'd say this.. though it seems a little to obvious to be the answer..
Does it still run 1080i on this new cable? I'm really not sure.
