I've been thinking of doing this for awhile, as my summer job is coming to an end. I know a few people on here probably do this, so I figured I'd ask FP if this is a good idea or not and for any advice.
I'm thinking of offering a service where I go to people's houses to fix their computer problems (virus removal, software installation, etc.). My teacher does this on the side and he makes good money doing it, I also took a high school course that taught me how to fix software and hardware problems with computers. One thing that I am concerned about is that I'm not really up to date on specific parts, like if a client said he needs a new video card and asked me what he needed I wouldn't know what to recommend (I usually ask on here for those kind of things). My friend's dad delivers for the local newspaper so he said he could add in a flyer for my computer repair service which would help alot as it would get delivered to almost everyone in my local city.
What do you guys think? Is this a good idea or not? I've fixed alot of problems with my own computer, families computers and some friends, built my own (with the help of you guys), and fixed various hardware + software problems that my teacher presented in my computer class. I still don't have alot of experience though.
I'd say it's a good idea, as long as you know what you're doing.

That's the problem. I have a pretty good understanding of what I'm doing, but I'm worried it isn't enough. I can disassemble and reassemble a computer blindfolded pretty much and software wise I'm pretty good I think. I'm just more concerned about specific parts and choosing the right one for the task at hand.
Edit: Like I don't know what CPU I would recommend for a gamer or for someone who just browses the internet and checks emails.

Easy!
low cost AMD CPU with a super high mark up. Throw a 5670, and some cheap ass DDR3 RAM in it. Then sell it on ebay. Market it as QUAD CORE PROCESSOR 12GHZ!!!!! SUPER FAST 8GB OF RAM. You'll catch every moron in the world.

Yes but that's not the recommended way.
@OP - the parts depend entirely on the customer's budget.
