Ship out Jan. 14th. USMC Machine gunner. Anyone have a job similar?

So I go to Parris Island on the 14th of Jan, I am color blind so my first choice of Field Radio Op went out the door, and they gave me machine gunner. So FP, I don't know if I'll see the frontline, sure I will, but just wanted to share with ya all something about my life.
I can't wait, my fiancee is kinda upset, but she supports me no matter what. I know there is some U.S Marines and other military men and women on here, and I am glad I will be part of something better than myself.
So I guess the point of this thread is basically to get my goodbyes out of the way, I know some of you folks don't like me, but hope you know I have no bad blood with ya. FP has been very good to me, and I hope to have it in my life further down the road.
LMFAO threads are a tradition for me and my fiancee and have been with them since the very first one. FP has seen me when I was down and out, when I was high and tight, but never left me. I'm gonna miss it, and I'm gonna miss the folks on it.
So does anyone have a job in the military similar? Or in the same branch?
Basic Infantry, US Army. Two tours in Afghanistan. Saw some shit there that still haunts me to this day. First tour was to become a naturalized citizen of the US, second was just because.
Be safe out there <S>
No offense, but I really fucking hope you don't see the front-lines, for your own damn sake.

I usually rag on ya guys, just out of good sport. You know? Like brothers do, but when I hear this, I feel sad, but don't pity you, you are very honorable, and I appreciate your service.

None taken, I know you mean it out of good will. But hey, someone has to do it right? And I'd rather it be me then some body who doesn't want to.
I am very anti-military but I wish you the best of luck on your future endeavors.
Tell us what the M27 is like when you get back, I'm rather curious about replacing a belt fed weapon with a magazine fed weapon will work
And good luck
Good luck out there, keep us updated on what happens for you and thanks for having the balls to go upfront if necessary.
Keep your nerve and may luck be with you.
Hey Daddy of War, you might remember me on Steam as Xamllew, we used to talk occasionally. Anyway, I just saw this thread and wanted to wish you the best in basic training, I'm sure you'll do great. Try to stay warm, I've heard winter in boot camp can be pretty harsh.
I planned to join, never made it past the Delayed Entry Program myself, long story short, I failed my senior year of highschool which disqualified me for my ship date. Semper Fi, bro.

Glad you remember me. It'd be cool to hang out, I'm not too close though, Panama City Beach. :v: my only transportation right now is my little 50cc scooter so I can't really travel. I'm temporarily without a land-line, but we can chat on Steam though if you want.
As mentioned before, give us a "review" of the M27. I really want to know if it performs as well as everyone says it does.
I def. will tell you guys about it, and tell ya about what guns I get to shoot. My fiancee is going to get a tattoo of whatever gun I get my first confirmed kill with. (Not that I want to kill, but I figured in this job, it's gonna happen, and it's part of my life now)

If you said something like that during the applications process for joining the Army in Australia, they'd tall you to go away lol
I work at an Ice rink so I could give you some advice.
When someone falls down try really hard not to laugh. Because it's really funny but you can't laugh at a customer so just play it cool and get them an Ice bag.
You leave a day after my birthday, p. cool.
Remember if you get shipped out to always carry a tampon with you. if you get hit it will stem the bleeding enough to get a medic on scene, one of my buddies actually got saved by one.
"Fuck what anyone else thinks."
These are words to live by. I wish you the best of luck soldier.

Thank you bro! I'll post pics of myself in my uniform when I get back.

Seeing as they have tourniquet I don't think they'll need a tampon. Solder do tell tall stories you know, it's part of the job
Fuck tampons, elevate, apply pressure, restrict blood flow via tourniquets. Simple shit.
Tampons? You mean take your shirt and cut your sleeve off! ( boyscout logic of making a quick tourniquet. )
Facepunch war experts barging in. Round 1 over.
Dont get shot
Dont get shot
I'll try not to, haha. Already was shot in school, so I know the feeling.
Good for you dude!
Also I'm surprised that this thread isn't a shitstorm. Usually I'd expect people on Facepunch to just call you a monster or something for being in the U.S. Military.
Remember, if you get shot, all you have to do is hide behind cover until the weird red vignette fades out of your vision.

No, you just walk over one of those conviently placed medkits on the battlefield. You may have to break open a few random crates for them to drop though.

Eh, I did to, but ya know, there's monsters in everything. But ya know, I'm not a monster, I want a family, want a house, want a car, have my moments of doubt and pain, and happiness...I am far from a monster, just a everyday joe.

I heard there's gonna be small bases with medical dispensers on the walls. Just gotta hook my H.E.V suit to it.
