I've been looking into getting an Ipod Touch. I only normally get around $200-$280 on my birthday. I want to spend it on something that will last me a long time. So, I need your help.
1. How big are the applications normally?
2. Is 8GB big for an Ipod, will it hold alot of Apps, Music, and Videos?
3. What case is the best for protection and appearance?
4. I see that cases normally cover up the whole back of the Ipod, does that mean I should buy somewhere else for cheaper and not care for the free engraving?
5. How long does the battery normally last?
6. If the battery doesn't last long, please link me to a battery case or whatever those things are.
I do not want a used Ipod
1. Apps range from all the way to 10mb to 700, most are around the 20-50 mark.
2. I'd reccomend a 16GB but 8GB is probably fine.
3. Don't use a case, wouldn't know. It looks better without one, and i've dropped mine multiple times without any damage. I'd still reccomend a screen protector but you don't need a case.
4. Stated above. It should be about the same price, if you want the engraving go for it.
5. Battery lasts for hours under heavy usage. Excellent battery life.
Go for it, they're awesome.

Thanks for the help.
How long does a screen protector normally last if you use it heavily? Browsing Facepunch and Email.
8gb won't hold a lot of videos, fine for music and apps though
i have a case on mine, and it looks fine, but the thing slips off often and dust and stuff gets under there which creates little scuffs, completely contradicting the point in getting the case. honestly though it looks the best without a case. you should look into a screen protector, though. i don't have one, and i haven't gotten a scratch, but i could, so i have to be extra careful with it. which is fine, i'm careful with my shit in general.
all cases cover the back, functionally the only reason you should really get a case is to protect the back. don't bother with the free engraving, you don't really need it or anything. i guess if you do get one, though, don't use something stupid that you'll regret later on. it is literally a tattoo for your ipod
in my experience, aside for wifi or having the brightness all the way up, the battery holds up pretty strong. of course as with most devices, wifi is a battery sponge, brightness doesn't help. luckily it looks best with the brightness at about the 3/4 mark, anyway, and just that makes a huge difference.
Thanks for all the help, I am going to be getting one of these. I don't really use video much anyways. I guess I will get an engraving since it is free anyways.
no get the fucking 32gb you dumbass
it's $70 more for 3x the space

Did you not read the OP?
Nevermind, good luck doing whatever the hell you think you are doing successfully.
I would say that the 32g ipod touch 4g would be there best since it has a camera and you might be wanting to take video's, and all the apps are the same size as on any other ipod touch. I am getting the 32g since it is my best bet. I am in the uk so £250 Is a good deal for a 32g from apple

maxed my 8gb with a little music and some apps
do you want that!?!?
no
get the 32gb
Bought a case and screen protector for my 3g. While it may look better without a case, mine is in near mint condition and it looks totally bad ass to flip open my case.

all the apps are most certainly not the same size
I've got about 4.5 pages of apps (most are lite or free so they take up only a small amount of space), and 438 songs on my 8 gig 2G. I had Zombieland and the enitre Leet World series on there at one point too. 8 gigs is plenty. FYI get appbox pro. It's good for monitoring your battery life and whatnot.
i have 6gb of music, 1.5gb of apps
holy shit it's full!
what to do
8GB is never enough, get the 32.

wow shut up
weren't you bitching about people not following what the op asked in another thread?
Well it's good for a starter Ipod, i got lots of videos and music and one hole page full of Apps. And this is a 8GB 3G or whatever, i ain't sure about the new features on the 4G tho.

32GB is a waste of money unless you horde apps and never delete them or have a obscenely huge music collection you want to bring with you. 16GB would be plenty, for average users 8GB is usually fine.

Except the 4G Ipod Touch doesn't come in a 16 gig version.

Seriously, +$70 and you have 16GB of space added on the original 8GB. Why would you NOT want that?

am I getting this totally wrong, or is 8 x4 32, not 8 x 3, so you're actually getting 24gb more.
I'd get a case as the back gets scratched very very easily at least in the early models
8gb is really little if you want music apps and movies
go for 32gb
Just used part of my last paycheck to get a 32GB, aside from the size difference since your 8GB will be the same iPod it's well worth the cash, I absolutely love mine.

You are terrible at math, Honestly.
Keep in mind the whole 8GB won't be useable.

movies
4" screen
that's fucking great
A 8GB will be enough ,not everybody has 6GB of music. I doubt you'll have over 1GB of apps.

not really a lot of storage for HD movies, i have 8 movies and in total they take up 23GB, not to mention 17GB of tv shows, most of which are actually just 480p(a few 720p Sunny and Weeds episodes). i then have 3.1GB of music because i also have an 80GB classic which as my entire 35GB music library (and all of the compatible videos and SD movies which are not on the touch so they don't take up space). only 2.5GB of apps because i delete useless/free apps often.
and i'm not sure how you got 4" out of 3.5", but all of the iPod touches have the same screen, so i don't really see how that's actually a reason to get an 8GB model over a 32GB model.

why do you use VLC? it's so limited in terms of resolution, quality, audio, and framerate. and the interface is horrid.
it's easier to just convert shit over to a compatible format.
