• Hoping for a $600 Gaming Build

I've decided to get a new computer, since my current one is mediocre. I already have a 20'' monitor, headset, keyboard, mouse, and OS for it. I just need everything else, pretty much. I can possibly go a little higher than $600, if it matters. Thanks in advance.
can you reuse HDD and dvd drive?
OS is 64 bit right?
can you reuse HDD and dvd drive?
No, I'm gonna' move my old computer to my vacation house 'cause I go there a few times a month. And yeah, the OS is 64. [editline]30th April 2011[/editline] I also found an oldish build from these forums, and just swapped some stuff out for some new stuff. This any good? The RAM wont work in that board because it's for laptops also i think you can get an i5 build for that money.
Ah, thanks. Is this a better choice for the RAM? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231310&cm_re=4g_ram-_-20-231-310-_-Product And.. what would an i5 build be?
Intel i5, but you really don't need to know as it'll cost too much. [editline]30th April 2011[/editline] And that RAM will work, but I recommend getting two pairs of 2GB in dual channel.
If that's the case, I'll settle with a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231253 So, is there anything else I can replace/reduce to make it cheaper? It's a $670.92 at the moment. Its the same as the picture I added before, except with the G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB).

I think I'm gonna go with your suggestion, GoDong. Thanks. So...
I would really throw some extra money towards the better PSU, CF is a very nice upgrade option.
You mean the one you suggested? Sure. 600 bucks is what I'm 'supposed' to spend, I'm sure I can bend it a little more.
what's your maximum budget
I'd say $700.
This is $10 over budget but I think it's worth it over the 955 Links: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136865 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231394 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.634440 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.622006 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.620377
Thanks for the quick response, but what's the difference between the Sandy Bridge processor, and the Phenom II? Besides the .1ghz upgrade.
Don't let the clock speed fool you, Sandy Bridge cores blow away pretty much every other processor out there. Until the AMD Bulldozer of course, but thats a little while away yet. Edit: Benchmark comparisons, so you don't have to take my word for it: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=88
Well damn, that is good. But I found this package: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.624682 And got I upgraded 6 gigs of ram, and got the six core. So I ended up with it costing $675, while the Sandy Bridge was at $704 with 4 gigs of ram and only a quad core. I'm trying to save as much money as possible with this purchase.
if you're just looking to save as much money as possible then just go for the 955 6 cores won't do you any good in games, and I'd say the 2500K is worth the extra money
I took your advice, and I'm going with the i5 now. Here's what it looks like now. I added in a monitor, 'cause it turns out I'll be needing one anyways.

Boom?
-nevermind didn't see the monitor- anyways though try and go for a better case and motherboard brand
You're getting a worse GPU, but all-in-all the i5 probably makes up for it.. Just looked up some benchmarks, and in newer games, your GPU will be the bottleneck. If you don't do much but game, and you want to get into overcocking, I would get the 955, as you're getting a better GPU (especially when you crank up the settings), and because your CPU for the most part won't be your bottleneck. Get a motherboard that will be AM3+ compatible, and you have two upgrade options - CF and CPU.
Thanks. How's this?
You really have to provide links, too, not that I won't look them up, but it's an ass going around typing shit in, when you could just C/P. [editline]1st May 2011[/editline] You're getting a PSU that can handle CF, but the motherboard can't. You're getting a big discount, though, so it's up to you.
Oh, sorry 'bout that. And there's not a lot of other combos in my price range that have a better motherboard. Anyways, I've decided that this'll be my final product. 20'' Monitor Radeon 6950 Combo with everything else.
That PSU is crap, don't get it.
I have a question. I can get a i5 build with a 6950, or a i7 build with a 5850/GTX 560. Which is better overall? And I'm planning on getting a Antec BP550 Plus 550W Continuous Power ATX12V V2.2 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply. It's cheap, and meets the recommendations for a 6950, GTX 560, or a 5850.
This will run those too: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207012&cm_re=xfx_psu-_-17-207-012-_-Product And the 6950 build will be better for games.
