I figured that you guys are far more qualified than I am when it comes to PC hardware and that, for you, this'd ought to be simple enough- will this laptop that I'm thinking of picking up (http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-aspire-17-3-amd-quad-core-a6-3400m-as7560g-sb482-black-as7560g-sb482/10181745.aspx?path=2b0da2fff2848d980ee73c0004a2336cen02) be any good for gaming? I plan on playing games like Skyrim, Tf2, Guild Wars 2 (when it's released) and GTAIV, all of which run just fine on my current machine. I'm not asking if it'll run Battlefield 3 with the highest graphics settings @ constant 60 FPS, I'd just like to know whether or not those games would run well enough. Specs of my desktop OS: Vista Home Premium, 32 bit Model: Acer Aspire M1201 Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz RAM: 2GB Graphics: Nvidia Geforce GT 220 (1GB dedicated) Also, before you post, know that you don't have to tell me that laptops aren't ideal for gaming. I know that, but I won't have much of a choice when I go off to college in a year or so and can't take my desktop with me. Thanks for reading!
Yeah it'll run TF2 and GTA5 but what is your budget? I might be able to find out something better.
My budget is around $600 CAD. That one is sitting at the very top, basically. I'm sure I could be coaxed into going a bit over, but I felt like $600 was a good place to start.
I would personally extend my budget just by $40 cad more and get this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230139
What are the benefits of that one above the one @ futureshop?
I've never shopped at future shop and I cannot guarantee what they sell, newegg is a very reputable dealer that I have bought from. Also the ASUS I linked has an intel processor which are slightly better than AMD's processors and will run TF2 and GTA 5 better than the one you linked. [editline]20th November 2011[/editline] Plus intel HD graphics IMHO are somewhat better than AMD's built in graphics.
An Athlon? Holy like 2006. [editline]20th November 2011[/editline] Intel Graphics fucking suck.
An Athlon? Holy like 2006. [editline]20th November 2011[/editline] Intel Graphics fucking suck.
Well on a laptop I think they are nice, also not an atlon an APU.
I've bought from Futureshop online before and they have a store in my town. They're fine. But I'll definitely look over the one you linked a bit more and I'll look into what you said about Intel graphics. Thanks, mate. :)
Sorry Dr.Deeps you mean his current CPU
An Athlon? Holy like 2006. [editline]20th November 2011[/editline] Intel Graphics fucking suck.
My computer is from '08. I didn't say it was brand new. :v:
nope
nope
That's helpful.
A GT220 really isn't suitable for gaming, and you'd probably want 4GB RAM instead of 2.
GT220M will run NOTHING. No fucking way you can even run TF2.
GT220M will run NOTHING. No fucking way you can even run TF2.
GT220 can max TF2 on lower resolutions (720p) and I'm betting it can run on very high at full HD.
Were not talking about what his current build can run were talking about the laptop he linked can run.
Guys, the specs in the post are his desktop. Whatever happened to bad reading... The laptop in question: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/acer-acer-aspire-17-3-amd-quad-core-a6-3400m-as7560g-sb482-black-as7560g-sb482/10181745.aspx?path=2b0da2fff2848d980ee73c0004a2336cen02 Also Zerokateo the laptop you linked is worse for gaming.

Hey OP, to check how good the GPU will be then Google it and click on the one which is "Notebook check", it's pretty accurate usualy.
GT220M will run NOTHING. No fucking way you can even run TF2.
I actually run TF2 quite nicely with my 220.
The laptop in your OP is fine. That line from Acer seems to be a pretty solid one for gaming laptops. Gonna be picking one up myself for the holidays.
See here for how well it will perform http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html Bf3 will not run very well and neither will gtaIV. Also Dont ever listen to Zerokateo.
