• Use aircrack-ng in a virtual machine running ubuntu

I'm using windows xp sp3, running a virtual machine in VMWare, the virtual machine is ubuntu 9.10. I installed aircrack-ng onto ubuntu, and now all i need to do is use my laptop's wifi to use the network cracking software. But, in VMWare, I don't know what network settings to use I.E. (HOST - ONLY,BRIDGED,ETC.) What i'm really asking, is how do i set up the networking portion so that the virtual machine actually used my wireless network card. Not VMWare uses it and feeds the virtual machine an "Ethernet" connection.
I don't think you can do that in a virtual machine. VMware's networking lets the VM exchange packets with the external network, but it's through a virtual network card emulated by VMware. Aircrack needs to do more than just send packets -- it needs to put the card in monitor mode, I believe -- and that requires direct control over the host's real network card, which the guest doesn't have. Instead of using a VM, you could boot the Ubuntu liveCD, so that it's running on the real hardware.
Yeah I don't know why you wouldn't just use the live CD. Actually, if you go with the live CD approach I would just download and burn backtrack 3 instead since it already has it installed.
Did you just say "Wireless Network Cracking".
If you use a USB wifi dongle, you can connect that to the host directly. Other than that, you will need to use a liveCD or an actual installation to directly access the adapter.
