Here's the thing, I'm going to upgrade my current PC relatively soon and have already picked the parts I'll be getting. Still, it's a lot of money I'm putting into this so I want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck, which is why I made this thread. First I'll list my current specs, then the parts I'm planning to get. I was hoping you guys could point me in the right direction if there's anything in the list that could be improved.
Anyway, onto my current specs:
OS: Vista Home Premium 64-bit
CPU: AMD Phenom 9950 Quad-Core Black Edition (AM2+ Socket)
CPU Cooling: Zalman CNPS9700
Motherboard: ASUS M3N-HT Deluxe
RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR2 (2x2GB)
HDDs: 1xSeagate 7200.12 1TB (Main Drive)/1xWD Green Caviar 1TB (Storage)
GPU: MSI HD4870x2 2GB
PSU: Topower SilentEZ 700W
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-S202J IDE Drive
Case: CoolerMaster Storm Enforcer (Mid-Tower)
And for the parts I wish to upgrade to:
CPU: Intel i5 2500k (LGA1155)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V Gen3
RAM: Kingston DDR3 HyperX LoVo 8GB (2x4GB)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS70 SATA Drive
GPU: XFX Radeon HD6970 2GB
Additionally, I've read that the 6970 gets pretty loud and hot, and after having to deal with the loudness that is my 4870x2 I'm seriously considering investing in an aftermarket GPU cooler if only for the reduced noise levels (though the lower temps are great too), aside from the fact that I plan on overclocking the 6970. Are GPU coolers worth the price? If they are, should I go for the smaller and quieter in idle Arctic Cooler Accelero Twin Pro or the larger, more expensive, better performing, slightly louder in idle but quieter under load Accelero Xtreme Plus? Both will fit in my case fine so that's not a problem. There's also the option of getting a Sapphire 6970 instead, which comes with stock dual fans for slightly more money, but I don't know how it would compare to Arctic Cooling fans. Also, watercooling is out of the question. I know it's much better but I've no experience with it and it's too expensive, not to mention it's complicated to find where I live.
Lastly, I'm not in the US so I sadly can't take Newegg suggestions. If you can understand it or if using Google Translate is not too annoying you could look around this site.
Any and all input is appreciated.
I wouldn't get the 6970. That's just personal preference though.
Also, why is the site listing in Dollars when Spain uses the Euro? Or are you somewhere else?
It's a chilean site and we use the $ sign for chilean pesos, though it's easy to get confused. As for the 6970 it was either that or the 570, and judging by a few benchmarks I've seen the 2GB 6970 gets slightly better performance at higher resolutions.
Not many replies... I take it the build is fine as it is?
