Wouldn't "Retracting" have been a better description? I read the title and got the impression Google was trying to patent crumple zones which have been around for about 20 years I think?
Wouldn't retracting the car's front end reduce what little survival space there is in the passenger compartment?
I can't see this being any safer than conventional safety cells.
looks like it's more for the safety of pedestrians.
