Hey guys. I just installed a hard drive into a Dell Dimensions 4600c I'm fixing up for my brother. I got everything hooked up and the motherboard does recognize the hard drive, but I can't get my WinXP cd to work. I have it in the disc drive and boot up, and it doesn't seem to regonize the disc and boot into Windows Setup. I read on the back of the hard drive that I need a seagate discwizard or something to set up the hdd. Is that was I need to do to get this working? Thanks for any help.
Sounds like you need to set your CD drive to the first bootable device in the BIOS.
All right, everything's good and done. Now a totally different question, I've got XP installed, but now I need to get an internet connection working on it. I went to Network Connections through the control panel, and it seems like there are not network adapters installed. The computer does have an network adapter on the back, and I have it plugged into my router in the second lan spot. My computer is using the first. How can I get the adapter installed and working?
Search dell for drivers and use usb stick to transfer it to it.
Look for the network drivers here http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_P4_4600C&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
