It had a bunch of reasons why certain weapons sucked and included an incident of failed bayonet charges by the Japanese or something. It's completely gone now so I can't find it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I know exactly which thread you mean. All I remember is the author had an animated avatar of flintlock pistol.
