Would it be better to get DK2 than consumer version? I heard that consumer version will be 400$+. [editline]20th November 2015[/editline] ah crap...
We're so fucking close to the consumer version. DK2's are no longer available for orders and are going for between $500 and $1000+ on ebay. The leap in quality of a consumer version will be worth its weight in gold so just wait it out. I don't care if it costs more, buying a DK2 will leave you with unsupported drivers and useless, lesser quality hardware going forward.

I mean going from DK1's screen to DK2, it is a big improvement for sure. In DK1, you couldn't even really see past 10m, and while you can see easily for about 50-100m on DK2, most text is still barely readable on games like Elite. I just don't feel confident that I'd be able to get in a flanker cockpit and be able to read the dials while wearing the CV.

It will be totally unsupported and rendered obsolete as soon as the first consumer devices ship

So the RIFT will have more games than the Vive at start right? But Vive has better quality?
I ordered one recently because I found one relatively cheap on craigslist, and I really recommend waiting. The hardware itself is fine (it could use a resolution bump, but it's not too distracting), but the software side is just a big disjointed mess. You'll often get games that don't work or require different versions of the oculus runtime software to use (ie some only work with newer versions, some only work with older versions), and that's not to mention the general iffiness of getting the thing to kick into gear in the first place. Just wait until that shit is regulated. I don't regret buying a devkit early but don't expect it to blow your dick off just yet.
