For a while now I've been unable to connect to the internet with Google Chrome and IE, but shortly after this problem came up I was able to reconnect with IE. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to connect with Chrome. I've taken advice from this thread, but was unable to gain the same results as some other lucky people have. Along with that, Steam has been giving me trouble for the last few days. First, I couldn't connect to servers on any game, then I couldn't get steam to go online, and now it won't even start up (thanks to me deleting the clientregistry.blob, ironically doing that has worked before now.) When I try to log into Steampowered, my password is no longer recognized and I can't even get it reset. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I know help is needed.
I've not adjusted my firewall beforehand. I've tried to get it to allow steam and chrome to connect by checking/unchecking the boxes for them, but it still doesn't help.
What is your antivirus?
Maybe it has blocked some things?
And you still might have some firewall settings. If it's Windows firewall your antivirus should outclass it, so just turn it off. And still check your AV.
I have Nortons Anti-Virus. Whether or not I change the firewall settings for Chrome and Steam, they go unchanged and prevent either one from connecting to the internet.
Yeah uninstall Norton (and never reinstall) and install Microsoft Security Essentials

Everything

I like how I was rated dumb for asking a question. :/
Norton is a virus, why would you install that?
AND YOU NEED TO BUY THAT!
Norton is one of the shittiest AV-s ever.
MSE is just better. MSE does not eat up your CPU like Norton, MSE actually finds the viruses that Norton does not.

Whoever installed Norton on your computer was probably trying to destroy it.
My friend's laptop had norton on it, and the PC was running unbearably slow. Once I removed norton it went back to normal
Norton, and the creators need to die. Uninstall and install a decent Virus remover bro, that's the most likely solution.
When i downloaded norton security suite it slowed down my computer to a crawl.
The new update of norton security suite was the most annoying update ever created in existance. It complains about everything that uses at least 40% of my single core CPU. Including itself.
When it annoyed about stepmania and deselected it when the performance warning pops up. That was when i uninstalled norton.
I installed MSE and Comodo firewall.
My computer was 50% faster especially when those two programs were separate.
What i say: Uninstall norton and get MSE. Maybe uninstalling norton will solve your problem.
Plus, Norton is the only av I know about, that needs a separate program to be fully uninstalled.
