I have had my keyboard for about 6 months.
The Microsoft sidewinder x6 keyboard has a port on each side of it because the numpad is removable and can be placed on either side, yesterday night I had a 20p coin randomly in my hand and it magnetically got stuck to the port (the ports are magnetic to make attaching the numpad easy and so it doesn't just fall out)
The keyboard backlight then flashed and died. No back light, no power in it, it didn't work at all.
I then though I could fix it by unplugging it and replugging it in, this didn't work so I restarted and on my OS choice menu the keyboard wasn't working so I let the timer run out to start windows.
The keyboard wouldn't work so I tried changing ports this didn't work, I turned the back light off and plugged it in, the keyboard then worked but every time I turn it up the keyboard flashes and dies again plus if I plug the numpad in it also dies ( but without the flash of the back light because its not turned on)
Please help, will I need to send it back to be replaced or can I just fix it at home?
this is why mechanical keyboards kick ass

It seems that I also need to get it out around the ports too, this would be too hard to get it back together :S
My guess is you caused a shortcut somehow with the coin.
Does keypad backlight work?
Also, you'll have to probably get it serviced. Or open it up yourself. If there's a fuse connected to the backlights (which is very unlikely), you'll have to replace it. If there's no fuse, your backlights are fucked and so are you.
Inside is no fuse, also the backlight flashes fully for like half a second then the whole keyboard stops working until it is plugged into another USB port.
Bump? D:
Sounds like you fried the keyboard with that 20p coin
