The guy who build my last PC(3 year ago) suggested this build

I've got a friend who build my old PC, I asked him to put together a list for a new one and he helped me out. He says he hasn't been keeping up to date lately though on the PC market and so I'm not 100% sure he'll be picking the best stuff for me. He suggested two builds based on whether I want AMD or Intel. I just need a quick look over by someone who knows their shit to make sure there's nothing wrong with it.
He suggested this for $1550 CAD.

Are you wanting to game with this PC?
those builds are awful
[editline]08:32PM[/editline]
let someone here make a build for you
I have to agree with Yumyumbublegum.
Edit:
Post you budget and the state you live in! I asume the budget is 1700 CAD tops and as far as the state goes I think you live in Canada but I can be wrong.
Edit:
What will you use the PC for? Light, Moderate, Hard gaming? Rendering?....
Canada. I could go as high as $2000 CAD but I'd like to keep it close to $1500. PC is for hardcore gaming.

Then you are all set with that build unles another FP member has something to say about it :)

He has a higher budget than that, just get a 5870 or two 5850s.
[editline]02:46PM[/editline]
Also, a better PSU
that psu is fine
Get a Samsung Spinpoint F3, maybe a SSD as boot drive.
Ok, why a HD 5830 with a i7?
Nexus' build looks nice, get that.
Yeh but get a CM690 II :)
[QUOTE=Carlios;22963735]Ok, why a HD 5830 with a i7?[/QUOTE]
why not? 5830 is one of the better GPUs out there.
Because he could get an i5 with a 5850
The 5830 would bottleneck the i7, 5850 and i5 would be like best friends (better performance).
