Yeah, because I heard that the particles from going for a crap float into the air and go into your toothbrushes and shit.
No, I watch it go down the drain to make sure said toilet does not get clogged and over-flow.

At home no. At other people's homes yes, but not because of the poop particles or anything. It's just common courtesy to close the toilet behind you.
