Good morning PC Building Section, how are you? Anyways, I'm just about ready to purchase the parts to build a gaming PC, but I figured I should check with you guys first to see if I'm making any major Fuck-Ups. (ie: Power Supply implosions, overheating, that sort of thing) I live in the USA and my budget is $1200. Specs: Intel Core i7 960 Processor (4x 3.20GHz/8MB L3 Cache) 8 GB DDR3 RAM Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 1 or 2GB (depends) 700 Watt Power Supply Motherboard: MSI X58A-GD45 USB 3.0, SATA 6 Gb/s RAID 1TB HDD If you want any more specific details added to the specs, just ask. Thanks in advance.
you have last-gen tech, and 8GB doesn't do triple channel better off with a 1155 i5 (don't need an i7 for gaming) also what part of the United States? Because Newegg charges tax for people living in some states and that makes quite the difference [editline]wef[/editline] so what is this, just the tower minus DVD drive for $1200?
Because Newegg charges tax for people living in some states and that makes quite the difference
Such a pain in the ass. I have to pay 100-200 on my next build in taxes.
Go Sandy Bridge i5 2500K, 4GB RAM(unless you really need 8GB for rendering or something), 600W PSU, Samsung F3 1TB then contribute the rest of the money to the graphics card.

Also as a general question to everyone, is there really that huge of a difference between i5 vs. i7? Also by last-gen tech, what specifically are you referring to?

I say go for 2500k.
Also as a general question to everyone, is there really that huge of a difference between i5 vs. i7?
i7s have 8 threads, and yes, it can make a huge difference, just depends on whether that said program can utilize 8 threads
