I'm getting a new laptop for college and looking for a good gaming laptop for about 1200-1300$. Help me facepunch!
Gaming laptops are very overpriced with awful battery times and become obsolete in a year or so. You're much better off getting a cheap laptop and a desktop.
Gaming laptops are often riddled with problems and are far too expensive and bulky. You might be better off with a multimedia laptop such as a Qoismo by Toshiba. It won't be quite as powerful as a "gaming" laptop but it will be much less expensive and have fewer problems. Better yet, do what the above poster said. Cheap laptops are the way to go. Put in the money into a desktop.
Go for anything in the ASUS G73 series.
Trust me, you don't want to be lugging around a $1300 laptop for college. The battery life on them is absolute shit, and they way a ton.
Check out the Asus N53 series. Good build quality and good price/performance. Battery life isn't bad with Optimus either. You won't be getting 7 hours on a charge though.
You're going to college and you want a gaming laptop?
Gaming laptops overheat easily. And they are heavy, bulky, and ugly. Gaming Desktop + cheap laptop=way to go.
I'm in the a similar situation as you buddy. Go for a laptop with the 2nd generation i5. I posted a picture on someone elses thread but basically in terms of gaming the perforce difference between the i5-2410M 2.3Ghz and the i7-2630QM 2.0Ghz are nearly identical. The i7 is a quad core and from what I've read, most laptops with those i7s have terrible battery life because of how much power they use. Go for the dual core i5 in a laptop (it has hyperthreading). Anything with a GT 500series graphics is good enough for the games that are out and about to come out. You can easily find laptops with this combo for around $800 and up.
