I like my computer just the way it is now, but I have to leave the poor thing behind for nine months. It's quite crushing, as my computer and I have become very close these past few months. She's new, and at the top of her game. You can imagine how torn I am.
Something so beautiful shouldn't remain idle, collecting dust for nine months while I'm away learning how to play soldier, but at the same time I don't quite trust my friends to treat it with the level of respect and love that I do. I'm considering leaving it to my friend Jordan for a while, as he loves all the computer games I have, but does not have one of his own to enjoy. I know he would put her to good use, but since he knows jack and shit about computer maintenance, I don't believe he'd keep her safe and clean. The little horndog would probably get a virus from some shady porn site and fuck everything up, and it would be a righteous pain in the ass to delete all of my dear files by reformatting.
Another option is leaving the computer to my dad, who I know would take good care of it, but wouldn't use it to it's potential either. So it's a question of letting my rig go to the man who takes good care of her or the man who will actually use her. Or I could let it sit in the dark for nearly a year, allowing its treasure trove of fine games go unplayed, and its dual GeForce 275's go quiet.
If I lent it to my friend, what options would a system restore open to me? If I set the restore point to where I'm at right now, then when I get back could I simply initiate the restore and delete all of the crap he'd built up since I gave it to him, or is it more complex than that?
system restore does not work like that. it really just reverts changes to the registry. i'd leave it with your dad.
Yea it's that simple.
Just make a restore point and when you get back revert to it. Everything will be just as it was.

Wait what? When I did a system restore it uninstalled a bunch of games that I had recently installed, and got rid of the adware I had recently gotten.

What? Everything you do effects the registry...
Look into Norton Ghost.

If I knew you, and lived close, I would be more than happy to look after your computer. I would use mine for porn, so you would be safe on that end... I wouldn't download anything except for what you tell me to download.
Make a backup, format PC or remove all your personal shit on it incase spyware gets you.
When you get back, restore backup.

Either that or you'll have to set up automated virus, adware and spyware scanning to be on the safe side.
