• Windows 8 BSOD: inaccessible boot device
    19 replies, posted
So, after successfully dual booting Linux Mint 14 and Windows 8, I have come across the problem of windows 8 trying to boot, giving a BSOD mentioned in the title, and, after I try booting again, goes to Advanced Startup Options, where the only options are to restore/refresh, and I am adamant to not lose my files because of this, because this is simply a bootloader problem. Does anyone know how to fix the Windows 8 bootloader? I really want to get on Windows; this seems such a trivial problem. Like, this seems really simple, I am just so frustrated that I can't fix it.
Aren't you using the GRUB boot loader?

windows still doesn't boot after forcing fshck on boot and badblocks returns nothing after scanning the whole drive. I can't run chkdsk from windows 8 cmd because for some reason it can't find c:/ I'm just going to be permanently on Linux from now on I guess. unless anyone can help
seriously does anyone know how to fix this
Apparently, Killervalon has no sense of humor. And I will always long to meet you in person so I can ruin your face. [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] Did your computer come with a disk when you bought it? Hopefully it did, and hopefully your linux installation didn't overwrite the backup/recovery partition if it had one of those. To fix a windows boot sector and etc, you need your disk for the version you're repairing. Boot up with that disk, watch carefully as it might say "press any key to boot" in which you will hit a key, derp. Just pay close attention to what everything says. If you DON'T have a disk...well, I'd get yourself a cheap pack of DVD-RW's and burn yourself a copy. I'm sure that you have a windows 8 key, right? Usually attatched to the computer. How often do you defrag your computer? Defragging is essential to the Windows Operating System to function fast, accurate, and without error. Simply make the right sidebar appear and under settings, search for Optimize Drives, and do that. An application of sorts should pop up after your search. I'm not 100% clear, but the internet seems to direct me in that way. [url=http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-8/what-happened-to-disk-defragmenter-in-windows-8/]Defrag in Windows 8[/url] BSOD is usually a software error, unless of course you've been running some shotty computer for a long time and things just start to die. Good luck with your puter.
No, and looking at you and others opinions too - you really post stupid stuff. Which probaly explains your history. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/tVOgt86.png[/img_thumb]
Ok, Snip post, because targeted user is now ignored. Making life easier since sliced cheese.

But did this guy got banned because of this random ass post?

[editline]14th April 2013[/editline] Also Killervalon if all you're going to do is make offtopic posts insulting the only person who is trying to help me, then please go
[QUOTE=Killervalon;40277718]Yes. Among other trolls which he admitted.[/QUOTE] Hmm. A pity this guy is here. Oh well let's talk about something else. Current weather conditions for instance, weather is so great I can simply sit outside on a wobbly table with my laptop while typing this :D
I'm looking at this: [url]http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/install#1TC=t1[/url] and it seems I want the option to install to a DVD, boot from that, and then run a cmd and bootrec /fixboot and chkdsk /f [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] However, how will I run the downloaded .exe [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] I mean, I would look for an image of windows 8 to boot from, but we can't really discuss getting that, unless a mod can let us. Because getting banned would be horrible right now.

It's only piracy if you bypass all the measures they take to make you purchase it. Then it's illegal. If and only if you have a legit key, get yourself a copy of Windows 8[there's a USB way too] and install it over again. Also just to clarify for everyone, the Derp song was posted immediately after the answer to is he using a Grub boot loader, and well I've had my own issues with GRUB, so as you can see, if you have a sense of humor, I was poking fun at the fact that GRUB was more than likely his problem. Lighten up people, it's not like the internet is serious business.
i don't need to install windows 8 over again, i just need to access the recovery menu and run chkdsk and bootrec /fixboot from the cmd
Do you still have a recovery partition? Or did you accidentally or unknowingly delete that partition for Linux? I've done that before. My best suggestion for the recovery menu, is to look up your pc manufacturers website, and get the user manual for it, it may contain information on how to access the recovery partition, albeit you did install grub, and thus you kinda screwed up the boot loader, which is how it can access the recovery partition. If you get a copy of Windows 8, if it's anything like the XP disc, there should be a recovery console in it, that you can type commands, and you'll be set. Much luck to you.
i still have a working recovery partition, and i'll look on dells website to see how to access it
