Oh man. It's almost here. I haven't even given all the 10.04 CDs away yet. :frown: Oh well.
I've tried a few of the latest releases of Ubuntu in VM. Can anyone tell me the biggest changes from 10.04?

Anyway I'll try it in VM. I hope that soon Ubuntu will be competitive to other major Operating Systems.

Also when that day comes, I'll still have my 10.04 CD handy!
Super slow download is super slow...
Super slow download is super slow...
Must be lots of traffic, everyone must want to try the beta.

[editline]04:31PM[/editline]
Super slow download is super slow...
The torrent is crazy fast right now.
Must be lots of traffic, everyone must want to try the beta.
Yeah. Plus Chrome has always made shit over 100 MB download extremely slow for me. I'm gonna test 10.10 on my desktop and wubi is running right now to put 10.10 on my laptop. I need a newer ISO burner... The one I have glitches and won't stop at 100% so I have to do an end process on it. Then it won't eject until a restart... hnng... well lets hope 11.04 is decent
Well, I'm posting from the wubi system. 10.10 allows me to select my language, select install, then the screen goes black forever. Just like 10.04
Solution: Never ever use wubi ever again ever.
wubi leaves you with broken everything
Olawd, I still have an ubuntu 8.04 disk on my desk from when it was first released, I just nostalgia'd hard
I've wanted to do a custom Linux setup for a while now, and I really like Ubuntu's repositories. I think I'll try a minimal install of the 10.10 RC and see if I can't coax out a nice openbox system.
I would just use update-manager but when i last thought about it a 4gb download on a netbook is not on my to-do list, luckily now it is.
no no no no... The wubi system is fine... The attempted from-disk install failed. Oh, and both Firefox and Chrome claim I have Flash installed but when I go to youtube it wants me to install flash... WTF?

Yet another Ubuntu release that I'll go ahead and pretend doesn't exist.
Yet another Ubuntu release that I'll go ahead and pretend doesn't exist.
gonna have to agree with you there. they just keep getting worse and worse. hopefully the final product will be at least a little bit better
Meerkat. :eng101:
Meerkat. :eng101:
Shit, I just saw that, and now I can't change it... :crying: And yeah, I'm skipping this Ubuntu release because all the major changes were made to the LTS release, so I'm not expecting anything major until Ubuntu 11.04 in April.

I love having the newest one just 'cause, even though I'm leaving my servers on the LTS for a bit longer. I've started using Debian instead. I don't feel like Ubuntu is offering anything that's really important to me, and their idea of what home users want isn't quite on the mark. I've never wanted social networking to be a part of my OS. I've never used Ubuntu One. Never taken a glance at the music store, or any paid crap. I've never used Ubuntu's package manager because Synaptic is better. It just seems like bloat at this point. Why would I install an OS with all that crap if I can start with something minimal & only get the stuff I want?
Why would I install an OS with all that crap if I can start with something minimal & only get the stuff I want?
Well half the time the "average home user" doesn't even know what they want... They don't know of anything other than Windows, where everything is pre-configured for them. And I agree with your other points as well... The Ubuntu One music store is USELESS, along with the "Software Manager". Give be good ol' Synaptic any day. Gwibber is pretty useless too, since there's already Firefox for that. Personally, I think Chrome would be a better browser to bundle with Ubuntu. Would cut down the bloat quite a bit I think. Then I can stary using animated Gifs again for my pixelated animations, and allow many more frames. ^_^
GMF isn't all that great.
GMF isn't all that great.
What are you talking about? It's where dreams are made.

I find it difficult to get excited over new .1x releases. Same reason you just said - most of the major stuff happens in .0x , and gets called an LTS. Besides, Is there anything in .10 worth mentioning? Looking at the changelog, they have listed: What's new? *Updated packages New features *Updated Gnome to 2.31 Wow... someone was struggling for something to write.
