The PSU is pretty weak, so is the CPU and you're going to be limited to half-height cards.
The best card you could put in the machine:

It's likely going to be bottlenecked by the slow CPU.
Something more economical:

what are the kind of games i can play on that card? the highest i'm looking to play is New Vegas.

someone else also reccomended me this:

which i could afford right now. is it worth the money? would it run Source games on high?
ordered the above card on reccomendation of three or so people. will my PSU fry it/my PC, though?
Congratulations, you just bought an outdated and shitty GPU. Not only will it not play games, it won't even fit in your machine because it's not a low profile card.
i don't mean to be rude, but where did the impression that i have a half-height case come from?

it's horizontal. but it's not half-height. see:

isn't the 5450 only a grade or two better than the 240 anyway

I searched for your case on Google and I turned up a case that had half-height slots.

Uh, no. The GT240, depending on the version, can either be a re-branded GF 9400GT or a super cut-down fermi core that has a performance level between a 9500GT and a 9600GT. In either case, it's still a terrible GPU only designed for office or light media use.
It's not a gaming card, and you aren't going to get any sort of respectable performance out of it, even on the lowest possible settings.
i'm sure i can squeeze some sort of improvement over my 6100 out of it. my last graphics card was an 8400GS, and i got a good 3 years worth of games out of that.
