Yes, I've fucked my computer so hard, somehow, that when the progress bar is 99% through deleting something, the computer locks up. The only thing I can do is move the mouse. After I restart (the only thing left to do), the file is deleted, though. This is quite annoying. Why can't I delete things? I doubt it's a virus, as I scan my entire computer with AVG every Friday. What could possibly be causing this?
Sounds like your hdd is messing up.
Are you using any special program for deleting things, or are you just using the recycle bin?
Try defragging your hard drive, and freeing up space if it's nearly full.
I know there's a better program than the windows one to do so, but I'm not sure what it's called. I'm sure someone else here can come to the rescue.
Defraggler I believe its called.
The same thing happens when I try to defrag using either programs. The computer just stops responding. All I can do is move the cursor. Yeah, I'm a fucking idiot for not maintaining this computer, lol. Is there any way to fix this other than formatting my harddrive?
do a chkdsk for bad sectors.
do a chkdsk for bad sectors.
Tried that too, it froze. :v:
Well, great news, I tried to scan for viruses over the night, only to wake up in the morning to see that...
It fucking froze again.
This time I couldn't even move the mouse, I was just staring at the Screensaver until I restarted the PC. This shit is ridiculous, everything works fine on this computer, except for these things. Would formatting the harddrive (as a last resort) possibly fix this?
NTFS system damaged?
It would most likely fix it. Sounds like the data on the hard drive is badly damaged and formatting should clean it all (so should chkdsk and maybe defragging but since that freezes, formatting seems the only option)
NTFS system damaged?
Maybe, but I have no idea what that is. You know when you shut down your computer incorrectly and you get a blue screen that checks the NTFS system and stuff before your computer actually starts? It says that "the test will start in 10 seconds, to skip the test, press any key"? I have to skip that every time because at Step 2 I freeze at 17%. (I'm terrible at explaining things, I apologize if you just 'wat'd at what I just tried to explain)
My computer used to do the same, just not with the same servility.
I freed up some space and later I reformatted and I haven't experienced it since then.
