Poll: If Steam offered a "physical to digital" service for games, would you use it?

If you could send to Valve/Steam physical copies of games you owned that were also offered in the Steam library, and they add the game to your Steam account, would you do it?
As far as what happens to the physical copies, lets say they're recycled, and they take care of transferring keys from the original developer to your account.
Probably not, unless we get something extra in return.
Is there a reason not to?

Personal preference, some people are paranoid about Steam, some prefer having physical copies.
After entering all my game keys into a spreadsheet (30+) I have decided I like Steam's way of doing things.
I hate keeping track of CD's, so I much prefer digital.
I fully trust Steam. They've never let me down. Except for on release nights, and it's not like the content was lower quality when it took forever for them to release it.
I'd totally do it if it weren't for the cost of physically mailing them. I think the current system with the keys is perfectly OK.
Yes, physical copies get in the way and I end up throwing the boxes out.
Like StarCraft. If I hadn't written down the CD key years ago, I would've never been able to install it years later.
I'm not sure why you're suggesting this, since you can already register your retail key with Steam. Else you can get a nocd crack (they're legal, don't even start) and add it to your Steam game list.

What about non Steam/Valve games?
Seriously, where, this is the first I've heard of this.

It would be nice for collectors.
only if the boxes are shitty

only works for a few games dud
No, I love my boxes and huge special editions. Also if they upgraded their servers so that I can download at around 5MB/s anytime (no matter what release or how many are online) then I would use it for some games, but unless they achieve that it's faster to just pop in the disc and install it.

That only works on games that need steam to run. Source games, for example.
And I'd maybe use it, it would make it easier to keep track of games, but I'd prefer to just go with discs.
Yeah, it'd be nice being able to reinstall Morrowind easily without having to dig around for the disc and end up looking for a crack because I can't find it, and I don't feel like buying it twice.
I might, but I would always keep one physical game copy (or at least the games CD key) so if my account is ever hacked I won't be stuck in the dust. :v:
The only problem I can see, is if you get hacked. Then you have lost all your games.
most def digital
Only if they offer both services at the same time (You buy a game, the game is shipped to you, once the key is activated, you can either install it offline, or download it from steam)
I like boxart and manuals, but to save me lugging around un-necessary shit, I probably would.
Personally i'd prefer if I could get all my physical games downloaded onto my account. Much less clutter, even if it is putting all my eggs in one basket.
I prefer having physical copies, but being able to register the games on steam using keys wouldn't be any bad. I just hate to do those download installs on steam. I've bought almost ALL games that Valve made, through retail.
depends. Registering a game on steam voids any potential resale.
Nope.
Yeah, I would.
The "Activate product on Steam" works on some games, atleast used to. I activated Prey with it.

I don't get why people would want to transfer something physical onto Steam. What's the point? With a physical copy, it's easier to reinstall (without having to download), you don't lose it if for some reason you lost your steam account, you can get the overlay anyway by adding the exe to your steam account and that isn't binding to your account.
I much prefer having digital copies of games since I have two computers at two different houses so lugging cd's back in forth is annoying as hell.
Only for certain games.
I choose no. Steam is the worst idea ever. Years ago I bought HL2 and made an account on Steam. I stopped playing HL2, so got rid of steam. Now steam apparently deleted my account or some one hacked it in the years i was gone or something, because steam won't send a password reset or w/e to any of the emails I have ever had, so now I am stuck with a copy of HL2 that I can't play.
